The AC runs a little, then it blows hot air. The AC starts again and is really cold, then it goes off again and blows hot air. This happens on normal AC and Max AC. We can feel the AC compressor cycling. Ford replaced the Blower motor resistor last month and we are concerned about electrical problems on a vehicle with only 40K that the warranty just ended
Make sure your fan is coming on, you should hear it come on when you turn on the A/C or defrost. The most common problem for that symptom is the fan relay burns out, and the A/C comes on strong but then overheats quickly making the pressure in the condenser get too high and the pressure cycling switch automatically turns off the A/C. The condenser then cools and the process starts over. If you can locate your radiator fan fuse and relay, which will be in the fuse box under the hood, you can rule out the relay by pulling one of the same size from another system that isn't important like the fog lamps(if equipped). As long as you verify that the fan is NOT working, you would try this relay swap test as long as the fuse is still good. I work for a Ford dealer as a technician, if you brought your vehicle in for service for an A/C or heater concern and your still having problems with it. You can bring it back in for a "recheck" or "repeat" repair and they will have no right to charge you again... If I worked on someones car, and the problem came back after they left, I would seriously want to know because I care about my work and care about my name as a master technician. Just remember, you do not have to pay for repeat repairs... EVER!!
I hope this info helps!~subyguru~
I have a problem with my 2009 for escape xlt 4cyl..I just bought it in August of 2012 with only 14,500 miles on it..In september of 2012 I left my house to go pick up my boys from school and as soon as I got in my truck and was on my way to the school I notice my A/C was blowing out warm air so I left it on to see if it would get cold,I got to my sons school and I left the truck running with air on to see if it would start blowing cold air,but it did not.I was sitting at the school for 30 minutes and my truck shut off on me.So I started it again which it started fine then 2 seconds later it shut off again.I did this a couple of times but it kept shutting off.i didn't know what was wrong so i called my husband and told him to come to the school to get me and deal with this truck,I had another son I still had to pick up from another school.So my husband for some reason just turned off the air controls and it started fine and got it home.He couldn;t figure out what could be wrong with it but noticed that if the air was on the truck would shut off,if the heat was on it would stay running.He then just unplugged I guess the air compressor?Could be wrong but I know he unplugged something..My question is why would the air turn off my truck and what could be the problem?My husband is saying its the compressor that needs replaced but i think it might be more than that?Any opinons?Thanks in advance-Kristy

List of possibilities :
blower motor
resistors
switch(On/OFF)
SOURCE: 2004 silverado for some reason the heater/ac
Well had the same issue on my duel climate controll 04 2500HD but changing the heater control solved the different temp.The only other thing would be your mixer door motor.There are two,one for DR side is probibly stuck..As far as the blower motor.The resister should have taken care of that.Sounds like you may have another bad one.May want to take a volt meter to the resister plug in and run you different fan speed just to make sure that you get voltage to the different conecters.

More than likely. You said you get really cold air on high and no air but the blower motor on low.
You can just use high or try a local junk yard, it is a '97 so there should be a few there or you can go back to the dealer. From what I have heard FORD has stopped making a lot of parts for the older explorers ('95 body style). I havn't heard anything on your body style or newer not being available. Try pulling out the head unit and cleaning all the contacts and see if that works. Good luck.
SOURCE: 1999 Ford F150 AC fully charged with freon is blowing hot air
there are few things you need to check out:
1. if the compressor is overcharged it will shut down and you won't get any cool air
2. the thermostat for your cooling system is bad
3. the link to adjust the temperature is too short (did you feel the switch loose when changing temperature from hot to cold)?
hope this helps.
