GMC Jimmy 1999

The 'Check Engine' light stays on after the engine has started, but everything is running smoothly. The truck seemed to be a tad lazier on cold starts, but I didn't take notice until today, when the Check Engine light stayed on. I suspect a spark plug (even though I cannot say by listening to the engine, it's a V6) Any ideas please ? I have the same problem... I changed the battery on my 1999 GMC Jimmy and the service engine light came on and stayed on. Does anyone know how to reset the light? I have already tried disconnecting the battery cables for 10 minutes and then re connecting them. No change.

Disconnect the negative cable but leave the positive cable on
if this does not work then it will have to be scanned
