Car loses power after one or two hours of continuous driving.

After one or two hours of continuous driving, it loses power and start stumbling like if the catalytic converter were clogged, or if very little gas or non gas at all were passing through. After cooling down for a while it drives normal again for another hour or so,then I have to stop the car to cool down for 30 minutes or so (no signs of high temperature). the scan won´t read anything at all, there is no signs of any check engine warning, so my mechanic went trough a posible troubleshooting list as follows; I have replaced the saprk plugs, cables, coils, and air filter. The problem persist and the only thing left to try is to replace the fuel pump and fuel filter, as I have said, I don´t have any sign of check engine light, so the scanner won´t give us a read. Would any of you guys have any idea if the fuel pump could be the problem? we´ve already checked the Catalitic converter and it´s ok!

SOURCE: Won't crank after it has been running.

sounds to me as if they did not do the job if they did they need to also check the cam posistion sensor this will also keep your vehicle from starting. if you take it back to the dealer tell them you want the old part back. but if the area around the crank sensor looks untouched it probably was. hope this helps you.

SOURCE: 2001 Elantra stall, loss of power. Driving at

I am having the exact same problem with my 2001 Hyundai Elantra. I was told that the engine code that comes up when the sensor is on is called "Absolute Pressure In The Manifold". I was told by a "Hyundai Specialist" that when that code comes up it usually means that the seal on the manifold is Fuct. When my mechanic checked that out for me he had noticed that my manifold had 4 cracks in it(can varify cause he showed me). He replaced the manifold and gasket. The car ran fine for about 2-3 days and since then the problem has since come back and my check engine light will no longer go on/off it only stays on. Because of the check engine light always staying on I have noticed that on many occasions my car will hiccup many times in a row. The only way to stop the hiccup I have noticed is to take my foot right of the gas for approx. 2-3 sec then car will continue without hiccup(till it happends all over again). All in all I have been having this problem now for approx. 1 year and if there is somehow someway it could be repaired I would appretiate it.

You need to scan your Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to retrieve fault codes and find out why it turned the check engine light on.

1998 Toyota Camry. Why does my car lose power while driving, then an hour later it starts back up? Replaced fuel pump minus that filter, air filter, fuel filter.

Didn't I answer this yesterday?

You need an auto electrician to connect a professional grade scan tool computer, and set it to record live data and take it for a test drive. It will record exactly what goes wrong when the car loses power. That will dictate the fix. This type of fault you can't just guess.

I have a 94 buick park avenue. The car starts n drives fine and is n pretty fair condition but after driving continuously for an extended amount of time(couple hours ) the vehicle begins to lose...

Could be any of several things but most likely to be fuel starvation caused by anything including a foreign body in the fuel tank, tank breather, weak fuel pump or semi-blocked filter.

Lots of checking which might not reveal much due to needing to drive a couple of hours before the problem happens.

Hesitation when accelerating, then the car loses power while driving then i have trouble starting the car after losing power.

you may need to get your injectors cleaned the fuel filter being changed is good the coil is another good one or your fuel pump could be weak and isnt giving the proper psi of fuel to the injectors so id say clean the injectors first if thats not it the fuel pump

Check fuel pressure when truck acts up and check for spark to rule out bad ignition module or coil.

1999 Toyota RAV4 losing power not stalling it is stumbling & new fuel filter & fuel pressure stays at 46psi

As a quick test,fill-up the tank and do not top off.

Monitor the stalling problem.

If you're starting OK until BELOW 1/3 of the tank then it's a weak/failing fuel pump
==========================
Are you topping off the tank (MAX OUT) of while you're filling?

The emission control system can soak with gasoline if you over fill.

Locate the emission line that lead to the charcoal canister and let it air out under direct sunlight.

After 1-2 hours, reconnect the line and use starting fluid to start the car.

After 10 minutes of warm up time, then take it for a short test drive.
