SOURCE: vw passat 1998 no indicators working or hazards, fuse
HI Mark,
In that case all that is left is the blinker module.
Normally it is mounted on the fuse panel under the dash. It is barrel shaped, about the width of a quarter and an inch or so high. It can be aluminum or plastic. It will pull right out.
If an auto parts store wants more than a couple bucks for it, hit a wrecking yard and offer a dollar.
Hope you find this to be very helpful
Mike

SOURCE: changing clutch 1998 Jetta GL, remove part or all of transmission?
I'm pretty sure the clutch *has* to be against the flywheel, otherwise if it was directly connected the input and lay shaft would constantly spin even if the wheels were disconnected, which isn't the point of the clutch. Probably the arm for the clutch is just further along the hydraulic line at the back, rather than having it up the front. Open it the way you usually would as I can't see it working any other way.

once you pop the hood, there should be a cover behind the light housing that you twist to open the backing.. inside the housing will be a spring lever that secures the bulb down... unhook the spring and disconnect the harness connecting to the bulb...

Apparently its the hazard switch that's faulty and will need replacing.
