95 wrangler se 2.5L manual trans 4x4
lights come on, does not respond when key turns, jump start failed, tried to pop clutch going down hill would not crank. battery is old, will remove withh starter and take both to shop. I need to know how to remove and install properly.
I figure that I need to disconnect the battery and unscrew a few bolts but I want to be sure I don't mess with anything else. I don't have a manual, and I'm short on cash so I'm doing this myself. Any help is appreciated. A diagram would be lovely if possible.

I do not have a diagram, but I think I can help. There will be 2 or 3 bolts that hold the starter on. Here are the steps, and its pretty easy so worry.
First, make sure you disconnect both wires from the battery. Always disconnect the negative cable first.
After the battery is disconnected, remove all the wires from the starter ensureing you remember where they go so that you hook them back up properly. If it is not simple or if it is something that I think I may not remember, I will lable them some how or write it down.
After the wires are removed remove the 2 or 3 bolts that hold the starter to the engine block. Be careful when doing this, especially if you are laying under the starter as it may be heavier then you think and you do not want to drop the starter on your head as it will cause pain and perhaps a trip to the ER to get a couple stitches!
Some vehicles have small covers you may have to remove to get to the starter, but those are just a couple bolts if your Jeep has those, which I do not think it does.
Most parts stores have bettery testers and starter testers and can tell you if they are good or bad. Generally if you try to start the vehicle and all you get are a few lights, maybe a quiet "click" noise, I would check the battery before removing the starter, but if you want to knock them both out, by all means, go ahead. If the starter is bad you will usually hear some sort of "whining" noise, but not all the time.
Hope this helps!
