My dodge ram 2500 5.9l was making a whizzing kind of rattling noise , for about 1000 miles then my belt was thrown off. the belt tensioner went bad. when you loose the belt stearing is supper hard and the brakes stop working or are supper hard. when you get toward 200,000 be on the lookout for the tensioner going bad.

Depends what the rattling is really... If it's the engine , could need a valve adjustment... I've also heard of torque converters make a rattle when going bad, but only when in drive or reverse

SOURCE: blower motor makes loud noise when on high

I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 with the same problem, vibrating blow fan when on high, pulled the blower fan out and found a piece of the hinge from the recirculation door and felt the recirculation door sitting up on the vent of its hinge. Crappy engineering once again.

There should be 2 plugs in the trans - one for drain and one to fill. Just make sure you use the correct fluid - chack with your dealer.

SOURCE: Trouble code P1740 on 1999 Dodge Ram 2500

I had the same code on my 2001 dodge 2500. The truck wouldn't shift from 3-4. I pulled the trans pan off and replaced a broken spring ($2.00). It is behind a thin plate with 3-4 small torq screws. You don't have to remove the valvebody. Only took me 45 minutes to fix.

I would like to give thanks to Jeff Russel from Teal automotive. He said this is a very common problem. He sells any part for any automatic Transmision and his prices are very affordable.

If you are talking about resetting the codes of the computer, most cars can be done by just disconnecting the battery for about 5 minutes.

2004 dodge ram 2500 5.9 cummins 4x4 four door long box. Rattle almost like a clunck in the front end. might be a comman problem but not sure if it is what is the cause?

Most common reason is the centering rod. This rod goes from the axle (on the right-side), across and up to the frame (on the left-side). But if you investigate and its fine, then I will need you to give me more specific info about the clunking. When and where it happens. You may need to jack the wheels off the groung and inspect the brakes, wheel bearings, ball-joints, and steering components.

Engine shuts off when I put it on Reverse !

Idle may be too low. A lock screw is at the back of the P7100 mechanical engines, or 12 valve engines. If VP44 or 24 valve you need a dealer to change idle in the ecm. good luck...
