Lift piston pivot broken
Which pivot is broken ? the one on the door or body. most of the pivots can be replaced. if you buy a need lift shock it comes with new pivots. if the metal in which the pivot screws into is damaged then that is another story.
This is listed as a 2002 ford explorer. Go to an auto parts store like a Napa or other parts store and look at the lift supports for this truck and see if pivots are in the package. Most of the supports i replace come with new pivots.
I just went onto dealers site that we have and you are able to replace the pivots, they are listed there is one on each side on top and one on each side at bottom. call your local dealer and tell them you need the bracket for the rear hatch support. you will need to tell them which side and top or bottom.hope this is helpful good day.

Get replacement unit(s), find a support rod, release the clips or retainer on the old cylinder, and put in the replacement.

Lift supports are press on and pull off! If you look at each end of the lift supports you will see a small metal band that goes around the lift support, take a screw driver and get under neath that band and pry it off, this band holds the support onto the ball which is part of the bolted on assembly on the car. once you pry off this band just pull the lift support off and to install the new ones just press them on with your hand and some elbow grease! If you have any more questions don't be afraid to ask!
