Catalytic converter I have a saturn L200 and when i had 61,000 miles on it my cat con went out so it was replaced under warranty. but now again after only 45,000 miles it has gone bad again. what causes these to go bad?? why have i gone through 2 already? there was a recall on the car back in 2003 when it was new that could cause some effect of the cat con but the dealer keeps telling me that everything else in the car is working and they don't know what is causing this.

This doesn't make sense a cat con should last the life of the car. For a cat con to go bad there must be excessive heat in the system to melt the material in the cat con. For two cat con to failure there's something wrong.

SOURCE: 2003 Saturn Vue V6 2WD catalytic converter problem

I am sorry but the delaer is correct, there are 3, and the bad news is the after market cats won't work, the check engine light will come on if you use them and for that reason you will fail smog tests, the issue is how much they flow and the way they work is not compatable with the programming of the powertrain control module, stick with the factory cats, I know they are expensive but in the end you will have to buy them.

SOURCE: Intermittent blower motor failure

A broken/burned motor winding will do exactly this. If you measure it when cold it will look good. The broken/burned winding will only open from heat expansion.

SOURCE: 2005 ion power steering problem

remove electronic power steering (EPS) motor. remove the 4 bolts that hold on the motor housing. remove the housing. using a tooth brush, clean out the 'brush' dust from between the commutators. don't use cleaner spray as you might degrease the bearings. don't use anything metal to clean out the dust you might scratch or nick the commutators.

this solution has worked for over 500 miles for me. I'll keep you posted.

P0420 error code

The fault code P0420 is caused by the catalytic converter falling below minimum efficiency level as measured by the catalytic converter monitor sensor (similar to an O2 sensor, but different function). The cat is not covered for 120,000 miles. Here is the correct information on the warranty of the catalytic converter.
The Federal Emission Warranty covers that part for a period of 8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first. So you are out by years in service and by miles.

Catalytic converter has plugged up twice in 3000 miles

Catalytic convertor fails due to oil burning, recent head gasket, improper fuel control, but plugging up at 3000 mile misfire surely plug it up when the vehicle is dumping gas in the catalytic, lean misfire ,running very rich due to a coolant temperature.Who is putting this on?I dont know what state you are from,a catalytic should not be installed unless the vehicle is in proper fuel control.and whoever installed this should foot the bill. You need to claim warranty regardless and plus there is a EO# that must match the vehicle.

Sounds like a problem with your catalytic converter or possibly just an o2 sensor. If it is a cat problem I would make sure to have them address it b4 your warranty is up as they are typically very expensive!

The saturn dealer said this?

The federal emission system usually has an 8 year 80,000 mile warranty. This covers cats and maybe the o2 sensors. Unless the car has a salvaged title in which case the manufacturer will not warranty anything.

PO420 code is for catalyst system efficiency below threshold (bank 1) Usually it means that it is time for a new catalytic converter on bank number 1. Cylinder bank number 1 is always the bank with the number 1 spark plug in it.

only if its under 3 yr / 36000 mile warranty. if the engine has been running bad, check eng light on/flashing / rich ect, that needs to be repaired, thats what causes the cat to clog up.
