I have a 2008 jeep patriot with 78,000 miles. when driving about 75 mph for about 25 minutes the cvt oil light comes on indicating that the cvt oil is overheated and the engine will begin to decelerate on its own. If i press the gas pedal only the rpms go up not the speed. The vehicle's operational manual states this will happen but that the vehicle should be able to resume original speed in a few seconds. my light stays on for 5-10 minutes sometimes and the car slows down so much that I have had to pull off the highway and let it cool. any idea what may be causing this?

spray some wd 40 on wires to get the water out and then spray them with some silicone

Just trowing some suggestions out there, but, I would check the idle air control valve (solenoid) or the throttle position sensor. If they check out then my last guess would be the map sensor or the vaccuum to the map sensor. Hope I was able to help. Best wishes.
