PURCHASE HONDA WITH A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. BEFORE REPLACING HEAD GASKET, WHILE DRIVING ABOVE 55-60 MPH, THE CAR WOULD SURGE (IN OVERDRIVE) A LITTLE BIT. I THOUGHT IT JUST NEEDED DRIVING, SINCE IT SAT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THEN AFTER REPLACING HEAD GASKET, WIRES, DISTRIBUTOR, ETC. THE CAR CONTINUES WITH SURGING AFTER IT GOES IN OVERDRIVE, IT ALSO GIVES A KNOCK SENSOR ERROR, REPLACED KNOCK SENSOR, DID NOT HELP. CANNOT GET RID OF ERROR. REPLACE ICU/ECU, DID NOT HELP, HAVE CHECKED EVERYTHING, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

wow. a lot of bad information on this site. Refer to a manual for the proper torque sequence. The civic I believe is a two step torque procedure. First 22 ft lbs, than 53 ft lbs.

Remove and raise upper hose at thermostat end and remove lower rad hose.
Fill rad with a hose and watch for flow from bottom rad hose and/ or bottom rad hose connecton.......water should fall though rad easily.
Honda rads are cheap.....any restriction....replace rad.
Remove thermostat....fill thermostat housing with hose and watch for water flow at bottom rad hose.
Flush good.
Remove heater hoses.......flush back and forth until a good flow is present "With heater control set to hot" if no or poor flow....replace heater core.
Stop leak can plug everything.
Also.......not likely causing over heating....but ....at your mileage,if you do not know if the timing belt has been changed.....CHANGE IT NOW!
Water pump is optional at this mileage.

I think I would suspect the fuel injectors, especially since that is the code you are getting. Fuel injectors clog up, get dirty, stop working the way they should. They can be cleaned (you can remove them and send them to a company that cleans them and makes them like new, or, they can be cleaned in the car by some garages, or, you can get a can of Sea Foam spray and spray it into your throttle housing several times to try to do some cleaning that way, or, you can dump a can of Sea Foam (non-spray) into your gas tank and run it with the fuel through your injectors). You should probably check when you first start the car to see if you are getting any leakage from one or another injector (one or another may look moist or wet if the seals are leaking). You can also do the long screwdriver test (hold the bit of the screwdriver against each injector in turn and listen with your ear against the other end to see if each is clicking regularly). I would try the Sea Foam first.
I hope this is helpful in getting you started on a fix.
