I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. Basic model with the 3.7 v6. It recently started making a grinding noise like dragging metal. It happened more when I'd break. Now it is loud when driving and louder

I changed the break pads on the rear breaks cause they were the lowest. And the noise still goes. It sounds like if somebody is dragging a giant axe. The metal dragging on the floor. I don't see anything leaking nor do I get leak drop stains on my driveway. Have no clue what it could be.

Check your front wheel bearings. This will also give you the rock stuck in your brakes sound. Jack the front of the truck up, push on the top of the wheel and pull out on the bottom at the same time. If it moves your wheel bearings are bad.

SOURCE: rear end leaking in a

hi im dave
if it is the differential leaking (rear wheel drive) you could lock up your diff and cost yourself a lot of dinero in drive parts...it would be a much more cost effective solution to get under the truck with a pressure washer (and a wet suit) clean off all the gunk and source out the leak and fix it. If it is a brake line leaking same thing you could lose one side of your brake system and sometimes when your master clyinder runs dry it malfunctions. Then there are the fuel lines... Its best to know exactly what your dealing with by sourcing the leak and making your decisions from there, armed with more knowledge.

SOURCE: Loud whistle noise from my 97 dodge ram 1500

sounds like a vacuum leak. spray w-d 40 around vacuum hoses to find out. intake manifold might be leaking or sucking air as well use w-d- 40 there as well. if it has a turbo charger it may be going out. water pump, alternator and belts can make winning noises as well.

I am hearing a grinding noise when turning the ignition on my 2005 dodge ram 1500.Truck is automatic and runs fine when in driving.

Have an auto electrician look at the problem but I suspect that the starter solenoid is starting the armature spinning before the pinion gear is properly engaged in the flywheel teeth. If so the starter can be repaired either by a new solenoid or adjusting the pinion movement before the armature gets power.

I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 when you push the clutch in all the way there is a grinding noise and tough to engage into gear and there is a high pitched squeeling noise that comes and goes as the pedal...

you need to replce the cluch and preasure plate. the clutch is gone, its hard to shift because there is nothing left to pushout on the plate and the squeeling is from the same problem, the clutch works like brakes, when the pads are gone and you step on brake you get asqeeling sound from it being metal to metal the same thing is happening with your clutch

I have a roaring/grinding noise in the front passenger side wheel of a 99 dodge ram 1500 4wd. i checked for play in the wheel and there is none. i also checked the clearance on the dust guard. everything...

sounds like your brakes on that side are metal to metal, tearing up your rotor... when they get this bad, they will make noise all the time and you dont have to be using your brakes for them to grind and roar

2005 dodge ram 1500 4x4.There is a grinding noise only in 4 wheel drive only when turning.Rear differencial fluid was just replaced.

This sounds like a bad CV shaft. Check the boots for grease on the outside of them or torn boots the grease may have already washed out and wiped out the joints.

Grinding noise in front dif. of my 97 dodge ram 1500

im a mechanic i got a 96 ram- randomly occuring grinding noise coming out of my front diff. i replaced the vaccum shift motor assembly on my day off, took 7 hours and kicked my ***, im thinkin the problems gona be fixed i get 100 yards out of the shop and the same noise is goin on. ITS REALLY STUMPING ME couple of other options that im going to go after next- the shift fork is bent, the splines on the axle are damaged and now theres metal floating around in the fluid, transfer case out of adjustment, or some kind of vaccum problems i belive it runs off of transmisson vaccum because the lines run that way not towards the motor. hope that can help if i solve my problem ill give an update
