That is the hydraulic clutch line going to the internal slave cylinder. You will need to get a "clutch line removal tool" to take it out. You should be able to get one at a parts store.
Put the tool around the line and push it firmly into the bellhousing fitting and pull the line loose.

How to install Tranny to flex plate and line up bolts

It should be pretty basic, install the flex plate to the crankshaft make sure you have the correct flex plate bolts then ensure the torque converter is full, now look at the block there should be a rubber or foam plug covering a hole you will use to install bolts and tighten the torque converter you might have to remove the starter as well, hopefully your using a tranny jack if not, secure the converter to the bell-housing with a piece of wire flexible enough to be able for you to pull it out once the transmission almost in now lift the transmission/bell housing up and in remove wire install several transmission bolts now use a pick to line up the torque converter/flex plate bolts then the transmission bolts and reconnect everything else.
I hope this helps. Take Care.

I am putting a 99 ford explorer tranny in a 98 explorer sport with the 4.0 sohc engine. the bolts match perfect and the torque converter from the 99 tranny lines up perfect with the fly wheel. when I go to...

The torque converter is not all the way in the transmission. Pull the transmission back out(unfortunately) and you will need to shake and wiggle while lightly pushing the torque converter into the transmission. Once it goes over the splines for the pump, you will know and the space between it and the transmission housing will be minimal.

Replace thermostat on 99 ford ranger with 2.5 engine

The upper radiator hose is connected between the upper radiator and the thermostat housing. Drain the coolant then remove the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing, replace if necessary. Remove anything blocking access to the two bolts holding the housing to the engine such as the belt cover. Pay attention to the orientation of the thermostat so you install the new one correctly. If the housing is corroded or pitted you have have to replace it or suffer leaks. Push a rag into the engine opening now exposed and clean the contact surface well so it won't leak later. Installation is the reverse of the process.

Torque converter removal

No, there is no other way. The tranny has to be dropped. Once it's dropped, just pull the converter from the bell housing.

Need step by step on how to bleed hydrolic clutch on a 1996 ford ranger

First remove the clutch reservoir top. Make sure the rubber stopper/bladder is in the cap when removed. Next locate the clutch line that goes into the tranny just aft of the bell housing. There should be a bleed screw, if so open it slightly. If no screw, than loosen the line where it attatches in. Next fill the clutch reservoir and watch till it leaks out on the tranny end. Once thats noticed, close the screw/line and recap reservoir. pump clutch pedal, and repeat bleed steps at least once more to ensure all air is out. remember to fill clutch fluid up to operating levels.
