there is an ambient temp. sensor in the intake air ducting, if its a small round two wire plug you can unplug it and the computer will think its -40C. You will set a code when you do this, but should go away after you plug it back in.
Depending on the engine you could have a cracked mainshaft in your distributor which is quite common, unfortunately most cracks are on the underside of the shaft which requires removing the distributor.

THE INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR IS A INTEGRAL COMPONENT OF THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR.

There's a feed from the engine coolant temperature sensor into the AC controller as if the controller thinks the engine is overheating it'll shut down the AC to reduce the load on the cooling system
Try unplugging the cooling sensor on the engine ( follow the radiator top hose back to the engine as the sensor is close to this) and see if this replicates the problem, if it does then you know thats the issue.so the coolant temperature sensor needs to be replaced.

Also the possibility is faulty evaporator temp sensor.It may be sending a false signal to the climate control module that the evap is around freezing temperature thus shutting down the compressor. The evaporator temp sensor is located on the evaporator housing, in the a/c system, and monitors the temp to prevent the evaporator from freezing up. If the AC control module sees the temp going too low, it will send a communication message to the pcm to turn off the a/c compressor until the evap temp returns to an acceptable range. The other possibility is the high pressure switch located on the line in the right hand side whell arch.
Why I mentioned the high pressure switch because as the temp increases the pressure in the system increases and if the ECU sees this signal from that pressure switch in the wheel well on the a/c line it will shut down the compressor. You can test this with a digital voltmeter or install a set of gauges to the high and low side service ports and see where the pressure go. It also may be the temp sensor element on the compressor itself.
