The battery had to be changed, once that was done every time I drive when I slow down or stop and sometimes while driving it just dies. I can get it started but i have to keep foot on the gas no stopping.
My monterosport 2001 runs great till you come to a stop sign the rpms drop and it dies start it back up revs itself and rpms drop and it dies. we can start it up rev it and it clearsup and idles but later on when you come to a stop it dies again we have cleaned the egr valave and still same thing could the tps be the problem or what?

I had the same problem when I did battery maintenance on my 1988 Montero Sport. The problem was explained to me, that the car's electronic pollution control computer data was erased when the battery is disconnected or the battery totally discharges. The car's computer uses this data to regulate idle speed and other engine factors. The solution given to me was to recheck the battery connections (make sure they are clean, and tighten down), start the vehicle, and just let it sit and idle for about 15 - 20 minutes (without racing the engine or driving the vehicle). This will rebuild and repopulate the car's computer engine data it needs to make adjustments. Hope this helps.
Mark.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I TOOK THE AIR FILTER HOSE OFF THE CARBARATOR AND ADDED CARBARATOR CLEANER. PUT IT BACK ON, AND WORKED. TRY THAT.
SOURCE: i have changed my battery 3 times and it keeps going dead
Did they test the output only, 13.5 to 14v if it was all that was tested there are two other possibilitys that the alternator needs testing for Voltage regulation which will fry a battery (over charge and cells collapse)or the diodes have failed which will flatten a battery overnight.

You probably disconnected the battery and your idle adaptive memory was erased. You need to clean your throttle body. Look here for the solution. First post.

SOURCE: 2000 montero sports Stall while driving,
Just check your air flow meter connections do a "wiggle" test on it (Means move the wires to it while its running) put a bit of revs on while you do it or you will not notice the differance when you find the unrelyable connection! you see the more air rushes through the air meter the more fuel it tells the ECU to supply to the engine! so every it comes out off circit the ECU thinks the engine is idleingso it just supplys that amout of fuel thats why it dies under load!
an injection system will idle with the air meter disconnected..it just wont rev up because the ECU is unaware to supply more fuel understand?
Good Man Good Luck, HOPE THAT HELPS YOU!
