I was at a red light when it just died and would not start back up. I towed it home, checked to see if Iam getting fuel and it is. I pulled the coil and checked it and its good. When I crank it I pump the gas and then hold it to the floor trying to get it to start but theres nothing then I stop cranking it and it like diesels so to say, dont know if it is the exesive fuel or what ? please help if you know what is wrong, thank you!
If you live in a colder climate and you keep your vehicle in a garage, you might have condensation in your tank and your pump might be sucking water (condensation builds) Heet wont hurt your vehicle and works pretty well to get rid of water and ice build up. in my opinion the red (ISO HEET) bottle works better than the yellow.
LOOK AT THE SPARK IF ITS BLUE IGN SYS IS FINE IF IT IS ORANGE THE CONTROL MODULE IS BAD IT WOULD EXPLAIN WHY IT SHUT DOWN ALSO LOOK AT THE FUEL PRESSURE MAKE SURE ITS HIGH ENOUGH
W/fuel inj. don't pump gas. hold to floor this puts comp. into clear flood mode shutting off injectors to purge excess gas from cylinders. do this for 10-15secs at a time. should almost start by 3rd time if not let sit for while try again look else where if this dosen't work

this was helpful info but did not solve the problem on why it just quit and now will not start
My Durango is a 2003 w/4.7. It started acting like it was running out of fuel. It has 171,000 miles, so I figured it may be time for a fuel pump. I changed it but it still has the problem. It diesels sometimes, but usually just shuts off. Most times it will start back up after turning key all the way off , but has left me stranded for up to 10 minutes several times. The check engine light is on, but my mechanic says the only code that appears is a cam position sensor code. He has unplugged that to see what would happen but could find nothing. This vehicle has been a good performer. The only things wrong that I know of are an exhaust leak (blown gasket on the rear of the driver's side), and a vent hose on the tank which I found broken when changing the fuel pump. I will fix those problems this afternoon. But the shutting off is my concern. Help!! Ken Holton
My 1999 dodge durango has started to act lke it is not getting fuel. It diesels and will not stay running. The first time it did this I had just washed it at a car wash that washes the under carriage, I pulled into a space to vaccuum the carpets, and when I went to start it, it would not stay running. I held the petal to the floor it started dieseled then died, I did this same thing four or five more times, the last time i held the rev up to about 3000 rpms it stopped dieseling and ran fine for about 10 months with out any more episodes. Now it is doing the same thing without the presence of water. It just cranks now, could this possibly be the fuel pump?
My 1999 5.2 V8 Dodge Durango only starts when is warm but sometimes if it sets for two days is will not start. Now if the weather is extreme warm it will start and purr with no problem. I have the distributor cab change already.
