The dash display on my 1999 gmc sierra le will not display transmission shifter position and/or mileage. when i partially remove the dash module. sometimes the display will come back on, but when i reinstall the display it will go back out very shortly. I think it may be a wire connection into the display module. but I have not been able to isolate the wire. Can you help me ?
It actually sounds like you have a cold or cracked solder joint or you have oxidation on your connector or socket to the display module. Unplug then plug in your display module several times to attempt to remove the oxidation and see if that helps.

was there any problems up till this because its sounds like the shifting forks in your transmission broke if it moves freely i had this problem in my car one time might be a cable snapped loose or could be a clutch problem

On the passenger side. Right on top of the black plastic housing. You have to take the glove box, dash, etc. to get it out.
a couple of bolts and disconnect harness and it shouldnt be to hard
