I have a Freeze Plug Leak on my 1996 GMC Jimmy. The Freeze Plug that is hidden by the motor mount on the driver side of the motor. What is involved in repairing this and what should I expect a mechanic to charge to repair it?
I would hardly call this repair simple or inexpensive. the part itself yes the labor probably not. i have made this repair myself to my 97 jimmy if you have 4 wheel drive the transfer case up front makes this repair next to impossible from the underside of the car plus the fact that it is behind the motor mount means the the mount must be removed. this involves raising or removing the motor. simple? on a car of this age you will probably find (as i did) the motor mounts are damaged might as well replace them too the parts are fairly inexpensive. also look into replacing all the plugs so you dont have to do this again in a few years. oh yea use the proper antifreeze mix in your radiator water is what rusts out the plugs
It is usually a simple and inexpensive repair.
