All my remotes won't unlock passenger doors, why?

My 2003 Passat remotes no longer open/unlock passenger doors. All my remotes will now only unlock the driver door and trunk...They no longer unlock the three passenger doors on the second or third push of the unlock button, as they did before. The remotes will lock everything including the passenger doors when remotely locking the car and setting the alarm. The exterior manual key door lock will open passenger doors on second turn to the left, and interior door master lock on panel will lock and unlock passenger doors as well. What is the problem?

I called the Volkswagen Dealership and spoke with the service manager about why the passenger doors will no longer unlock with either of the remotes...but will unlock with key and driver door master control. He said it sounds like the control module has a bad circuit. The fix would be a new control module, parts and 2 hours labor would be about $530.00 to fix. I mentioned that my car battery is old and weak and needs to be replaced, and if that could be the problem. He said NO that a weak battery wouldn't cause only that one single malfunction.

My husband went to the local auto parts store and purchased a new battery for the car and installed it himself. Cost was just under $200.00 for the battery, but we purchased the top of the line "Interstate" battery. THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM! The remote problem is gone. All doors will lock and unlock as it did when new! I'm happy to share the good news with everyone out there who may be experiencing the same problem. If your battery is weak, try replacing it first before spending money on a new module. Cheers!

this is a problem that can appear after your car battery died, cause the car didn't reset propely, so taking the battery out and putting it back in or letting your car die again would do the trick. I tried a lot of reprogramming procedured for my remote key, none of them worked, what did the trick though was simply unlocking the doors via the all door unlock button on the passenger side door, so simple.

SOURCE: 1998 Jetta Passenger Door Won't Unlock

I had a similar problem with my son's 1998 Jetta K2 4 door. I sprayed loads of WD40 into the locking area from the end of the door through the clip slot, worked the mechanism sprayed some more and finally it start working. My mechanic said these are very prone to moisture causing rusting on the moving parts.

SOURCE: Drivers Door Lock Problem

You will probably need to replace the power door lock actuator.

Here's a link to one similar to yours.

You can probably get a used one from a salvage yard.

Power door lock switch?

Sounds like the drivers door lock switch is bad an as far as the auto start remote the contacts under the button get dirty and won't make contact, open the remote like changing the battery and you can probably get at the contact button, if it's a little carbon button they can be cleaned with a pencil eraser and then paper tower with a bit of rubbing alcohol, if it's an actual switch you can try spraying some contact cleaner into the switch. let it dry before you put the battery back in.
