The brakes on the front are now completely gone after the stabilitrak light came on, also the traction control light is now to off, and the service braking system light is on. Im thinking its my front brakes because i can still feel the drum brakes in the rear working. Also I had about two a half days of my brakes scrubbing a little. On a level from one to ten it started the scrubbing noise at about a two and continued until they went out which was about a seven or eight. My rotors are fairly new. I had only had them about six months. Im about to replace my brake shoes but needed to know if thats all I need to worry with. Could this be my brake fluid becoming less dense and that it needs replacing? My power stearing fluild had a leak about four months ago I replaced it with some lucas oil and had to fill it up two. Im sure it fixed the leak but thought I would include this if it would help

Have someone push & release pedal while at wheel with problem. See if it takes a while or slow to release. If yes, have wrench ready on bleeder screw, and try again, if it sticks/holds, crack bleeder screw, if it releases, I'd replace hose.

Below is a description of how to replace the rear brake shoes. You didn't mention if it is 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Dust and dirt accumulating on brake parts during normal use may contain asbestos fibers from production or aftermarket brake linings. Breathing excessive concentrations of asbestos fibers can cause serious bodily harm. Exercise care when servicing brake parts. Do not sand or grind brake lining unless equipment used is designed to contain the dust residue. Do not clean brake parts with compressed air or by dry brushing. Cleaning should be done by dampening the brake components with a fine mist of water, then wiping the brake components clean with a dampened cloth. Dispose of cloth and all residue containing asbestos fibers in an impermeable container with the appropriate label. Follow practices prescribed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the handling, processing, and disposing of dust or debris that may contain asbestos fibers.
If the brake drums have been scored from worn linings, the brake adjuster must be backed off so the brake shoes will retract from the drum. The adjuster can be backed off by inserting a brake adjusting tool through the access hole provided. In some cases the access hole is provided in the brake drum. A metal cover plate is over the hole. This may be removed by using a hammer and chisel.

SOURCE: 2006 chevy silverado 1500 front brakes are squeeking
on disc brakes there is a metal marker on them that when the pads get low on material it will make a squeeling noise to let you know its time to change the pads.. so I would say you are in need of front pads also even though they look good you are getting low.. this marker is designed to let you know its time before you get to metal to metal .. jerry

Previously mentioned proble. Turned out it was the ABS. I'm sorry I can't remember the part name but I believe it was the main distribution module. But, it is the ABS.system for sure

Try having the dealer flush and bleed your system. It is very hard to bleed ABS systems yourself and have safe brakes that still work afterward. Bleeding non-ABS brakes yourself is easy not the same for ABS brakes. Valving, sensors and what-not require a tech and the correct equipment in my opinion. You do it wrong and you could ruin your ABS system. Do that and see if they firm up. I replaced my brake shoes/pads at the same time all new everything in back, drums/springs everything and new rotors up front. then I had the chevy dealer flush, refill and bleed system. Stiffer pedal and brakes work better. Keep in mind the brakes on 99 Tahoes are inaedequate, require new rotors often, heat up and fade/glaze pads regularly. I replace my pads long before they wear down because they glaze up and start fading early. I'll rough em up once maybe, next time, new ones. Every two brake jobs, new rotors for me. Just how it is. They will stiffen a bit and work better but they will never be awesome brakes. Just how it is on 99 and earlier Tahoes. Hope it helps. Very important to bleed correctly though. I'll bleed my 83 Toyota 4x4 myself but not the Tahoe.
