Truck shuts off anfd restart right away, no trouble code.
I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 that intermittently shuts off, but restarts ok. sometimes it will not restart right away, all gauges go dead and reads no buss on odometer section.

First thing I'd check would be battery cables, at both ends for clean, good & tight. Does it ever do it while driving at highway speeds or just at slow speeds? Wet out, dry out?

The voltage output is controlled by the engine computer, so you may want to have a shop or dealer take a look at it.
If the computer is the fault, the replacement may have to be programmed.
Is there a red light on in the instrument cluster when the truck fails to start? If so, then the security system is setting a code that shuts down the starting system because it sees the truck being stolen. May want to check for security system trouble codes.
A bad fuel pump may cause a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9l to run for a few minutes and just shut off without sputtering. It can also be that the fuel pressure regulator (on top of fuel pump assembly) is stopped up. Dodge Ram trucks have been named Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year three times.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Digimaster 3
No, the coil the is not the problem. I would take the ignition module and have it tested. Even though it may not test bad b/c it is still cold, it is more than likely the problem. Have you checked to see if you are getting spark when the trouble occurs?
You are experiencing what is called a CCD Bus short in the instrument cluster circuit board. (chrysler calls it the "chrysler collision detection buss) it is how all of the controllers and modules communicate on that vehicle. Get a new one and you should have no problems, and used ones are a HUGE gamble. Other vehicles that are extremely bad for this are, caravans, neons, sebring coupe/conv, strates, and cirrus. It will also cause a no start condition that is EXTREMELY hard to catch.
