the multifunction switch that controls the wiper /turn signals, and high/low beam lights are very common for (when they get a lot of miles on them) for having problems.also I have seen a good number of these pickups that the connector (that plugs into the back of the multifunction switch)had lost the ability to properly hold the wire terminals into the connector causing a poor connection between the switch and the wiring. sometimes this can be verified without removing the column shrouds by (if equipped) tilting the tilt wheel up and down and see if the lights start working . hope this helps, thanks for using fixya
If you have tilt wheel the key cylinder has very thin wiring running all the way down the steering coluum. They tend to short out within years of use. Sometimes upon tilting the wheel the car will & will not start. The wiring runs to the security system
You have a short to ground somewhere. I would start at your headlights and make sure the wires are in good condition. From there I would look at your switch since it's the most used in the system.
I had problems with an alarm. the ground wire was loose. i deactivated it by disconecting the ground wire. when i repaired the ground connection. it worked well.
