Car has done a fair bit of driving, but all warm engine stuff, so engine goes beautifully. But...recently after I fill the tank, it won't hold idle and cuts out e.g. at traffic lights. Does not run smoothly without heavy accelerator at lower revs until tank is half empty. I have replaced fuel pump and filter as a precautionary move but no change. My mechanic has detected a wire joined to the sender that has frayed (metal/wire fatigue after many tankfills I expect) but no change. Is there other wiring in the fuel pump loop causing this problem maybe??

Have someone check the idle sensor. I had to have mine replaced along with another that I don't remember which one is was.

It sounds like there could be 2 possible problems. 1) the spark plugs might be too old and do not convert power efficiently causing it to shudder or even stall when power needs increase (I suggest a tune-up). Or 2) the timing could be off and needs to be adjusted by a mechanic, while you're at it you might want to see how worn your timing belt is, if it no longer grips it can cause off time explosions in the valve chambers and you'll definitely get some shaking action and even stalling and if it snaps, the car won;t be going anywhere (til the belt it gets replaced).

Faulty wire was obviously replaced. We wonder if we ought to replace the top housing part that holds the fuel pump...
Spark plugs were replaced during current exercise - power improved but problem still there. Wierd thing is she goes truly perfectly when tank is 5/8 full or less!
