Engine rich codes or knock sensor codes don't normally cause engines to stall while driving. May want to check fuel pressure and ignition system before chasing the fault codes.

SOURCE: Chevy tahoe shuts off when driving

i am on here because of an issue i am currently having with a 2004 tahoe, but after reading some the other problems people are having i will let you in on a previous experience i had with a 2002 chevy truck. my previous vehicle was a 02 chevy 2500hd with the 8.1 and the problem started on day when suddenly it shut off. it did restart with no problem. i never had that problem again until a month later and 1500 miles away when i went to texas to visit my sister. this time it took nearly 30 mins before it would restart. it would crank over fine but no fire. then suddenly out of no where it would fire up like nothing ever happened. so anyways to make a long story short i visited two different gm service centers, they did tune ups and diagnostics, and handed me the bills for over 500 dollars and told me that should do it. yea right the problem continued and then i searched online and one item that kept coming up was the crank position sensor. after reading what those people were dealing with i gave it a shot. went to the dealer bought a new sensor ($99) took an hour to install it and i never had the problem again. one last thing im gonna add. i had a friend that drove a late 90s or early 2000s grad prix, she was having the same problem and had her car in and out of the shop and never got it resolved, i told her to have them check the crank position sensor and bingo, she never had the problem again.

Unfortunately, the knock sensor is located UNDER the intake. You have to pull the intake off. I had a mechanic do mine. He said its best to replace both because they both corrode. (2 sensors, intake gasket, labor ($250)

SOURCE: Knock engine sensor light on truck is hesitating/

Did they replace the knock sensor?Check the wire going to the sensor(knock).Look for a bare place hiting up against something ,grounding it out.Make sure the plug to knock sensor is good.And make sure it is making a good connection,Knock sensors also ground a part of the computer to feed back imformation.This connection is a must,the truck will not perform at all,stumble,miss,and carry on.Sometimes even backfire.If they did not replace the knock sensor,replace it with high quality sensor from NAPA,or oem from dealer.This sensor has to be made perfect,no room for inperfection.The knock sensor is easy to replace,they just screw in a hole in the block.When removing the sensors,nothing will come out such as oil or water,this is a dry threaded hole.It is a bell shaped sensor.If you don`t know which sensor is bad,purchase one.replace one,and if there is no change,replace the other side with the old sensor you just took out,it will be a good one.I hope this helps you,Let us know if it does.

Hey. How many miles on it. If over 100,000, it may need new O2 sensors but unlikely both would go out of spec at the same time. You will need to install a scan tool with data stream abilitys. The pressure regulator could be ruptured which will drastically richen up both banks. If no tool, locate the pressure regulator, usually on the right side at the end of fuel rail. Make sure the vacuum line is attached and pulls vacuum. Unhook the line. The motor should sound very different and then correct itself when hooking the line back up. If there is no vacuum at the line, check for a broken or cracked area. Never overlook the simple stuff. Also need to check coolant temp sensor accuracy. It can be in tolerance but still read incorrect coolant temp. There are numerous other items that will cause a rich condition but check these first. TJ.

Check engine light was on with many codes, fixed all problems( all new exhaust, magnaflow cat system, flow master muffler, all o2 sensors were replaced, gave a tune up using MSD wires cap and rotor and e3...

new exhaust is to much for computer to figure out, since its flowing a lot more air , engine management cannot figure out fuel ratio hence the o2 sensor and knock sensor. u will have to install a performance chip or have computer re figured for new settings.

How do you replace the knock sensor on a 2005 chevy tahoe,and what exactly do you have to remove? ?

The knock sensor should be on each side of the engine block. These are single wire connectors and require no special tools or tricks. Simply unscrew and install.

Hello;
Before you start to pull the crank out, check your oil pressure via an independent gage. Then if you have around 25-30 psi gage, drain some oil out. Put a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil in and top off . Change oil filter. Drive the truck for a few miles. Change the oil and filter. This should start to break away the sludge that is built up.

You may need to do this up to 10 times before you can go 3000 miles on an oil change.
Now if the oil pressure is extremely low, yes you can change the crank in chassis. I have done it in a pinch before. It is much easier to pull the engine and put a crank in. If the crank is bad, you also have a rod that is bad. You also need to clean all the parts or emminent failure will occur.
I would also change the knock sensors on your truck as well. Hope this helps. Rate me high.
Thanks;
