Question about 1994 Toyota Corolla

I have a 1994 Corolla, which when idle vibrates, I've change the engine mounts last week and was fine then but after bumping the front left hand side today started vibrating again. Engine mounts are intact but when in Drive mode it does vibrate quite a bit. When it goes into Neutral gear it doesn't though.

Try a simple fix of putting injector cleaner in the tank to clean the injectors
check for any loose body screws and panels

Try checking the engine/transmission mounts, one of them may not have been reinstalled properly, or worn out, causing a vibration. If the car is able to move with the new clutch, and it seems to work, I wouldn't say the clutch was put in wrong. Also check the wires around the engine/transmission, you may have knocked something loose as well.

If you don't have to be moving to get the vibration then it has to be either something is not balanced properly (torque converter may be bad, front pulley, engine flywheel cracked) or you have a bad mount, causing the vibration from making the engine or trans contact the car body in a place you can't see.
Hard to pinpoint without feeling it myself. I can say for sure it's not the cam belt, unless there's debris stuck to the inside of the cam gear causing the vibration.

Sound more like out of balance tires, or bent wheel. Unless this vibration is even in park. Then I would say something is up against a part of the steering that shouldn't be.. Or your exhaust system is bent or touching part of the undercarriage that it shouldn't be. Was the car ever wrecked?

I wouldn't say it is common. There are quite a few heat shields around the stock exhaust "header" and exhaust system. There are also FOUR motor mounts that you can check to see if all bolts are tight. They are all 14mm heads on the motor mounts, 12mm on the exhaust shields. These seem to be the main things that may get loose or make a rattling sound. The exhaust gasket is also designed to flex when the engine flexes - I would check into the exhaust. You have to remove the TRD strut bar to gain better access from above.

Petrol engine


I assume it has a I4 engine? You didn't post the year? You could check the motor mounts, has the engine been tuned? Is it good running order? ALL service up-to-date. as per the owners manual? Old I4 engines start to vibrate with age, I have a 1994 Toyota Corolla I 4, changed the motor mounts, still vibrates, I use Synthetic 10-30w oil, it helped a bit.

I've changed my engine mounts 3 times on my 2004 A4 cabreolet and they fail within miles(start to vibrate & then within a week, severe knocking) the 2nd time, also changed the ****** mount, 3r


Engine mounts do not go bad in five miles. Sounds like you're treating a symptom and not the cause of a more serious issue. Are you sure all cylinders are firing correctly? That the severe knocking is not coming from your engine internals? Have you checked the steel around the engine mounting points for cracks or other damage? And just in case, if the mounts you are using are poly, are you lubing them before installation?

I HAVE A 94 TOYOTA COROLLA WHY DOE'S IT SHAKE WHEN YOU PUT IT IN DRIVE BUT IDL


The most common cause of this is that the engine mounts are hard from age and engine heat and no longer can absorb the normal vibration of any 4 cylinder engine. Also the idle may be slow due to a dirty idle speed control system or the engine can need a tune up or has dirty fuel injectors, I would service all these to correct the problems.

When my 2005 Xterra S is at idle there is a mild knocking sound coming from the back left side (as i look at it) of the engine along with (while operating) vehicle shaking like its about to die out but...


i would get ur computer system scanned to see if ur misfire or code is even referring to anything in the left rear of engine,if it does u could have some internal damage,maybe under left rear valve cover, possibly worn valvetrain parts????
