SOURCE: 1988 Wrangler Ignition Switch Removal

There are four (sometimes two) bolts that hold the steering column to the dash. remove them & column will come down to let you get in there.
follow instruction sheet with switch. if you don't get it centered correctly it wont work correctly.

SOURCE: Removing doors from Jeep Wrangler - Dome Light Stays On

I have a 97, and my fuse for that is behind the glovebox. Open the box, slide the end of the strap to disconnect it, then remove the box. The fuse is marked. Something like "Dome lt. elim." I think it's located one up from the bottom right. This can actually be done without removing the glove box. For a more permanent fix, quadratec.com has a switch that plugs into the fuse location and mounts under the dash, so you can just flip the switch. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 2006 Jeep Wrangler won't start

First, make sure you can turn the engine by hand. If you can't then the starter can't turn it either. Have someone else turn the key and look for the source of the click...may be a relay. Go over the starting circuit with a volt meter. Check for power at the starter main terminal and then with the key turned to "start" check for power at the trigger terminal on the starter. Check battery voltage and check relay operation.
You have a neutral safety switch on the transmission if its an automatic and a clutch switch if it's a stick. Check them as well. Make sure battery grounding on fender and block are also clean and secure.

could be, try moving wheel right to left while trying to turn the key, steering wheel may have tension on lock, if that doesnt work try another key if still nothing then replace switch, remove cover around switch, then use a pick to push in lock pin must trun key to get pin to go in you will see little hole on housing were lock is that where you install pick and push while truning key, got to get key to turn once more to get that lock out.

SOURCE: 2000 jeep wrangler will not start from the key

It sounds like you have a bad neutral safety switch or your linkage is worn enough that it's not registering properly.

Replace ignition switch on 99 jeep wrangler

The ignition key must be in the key cylinder for cylinder removal. The key cylinder must be removed first before removing ignition switch.REMOVAL 1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery. 2. If equipped with an automatic transmission, place shifter in PARK position. 3. Rotate key to ON position.4. A release tang is located on bottom of key cylinder.5. Position a small screwdriver or pin punch into tang access hole on bottom of steering column lower cover.INSTALLATION 1. If equipped with an automatic transmission, place shifter in PARK position. 2. Position key cylinder into steering column as it would normally be in the ON position. 3. Press key cylinder into column until it snaps into position. 4. Check mechanical operation of switch. Automatic Transmission: Be sure transmission lever is locked in PARK position after key removal. If key is difficult to rotate or is difficult to remove, the shift lever-to-steering column cable may be out of adjustment or defective. If key can be removed, release lever mechanism may be defective. Release lever mechanism is not serviced separately. If repair is necessary, the steering column must be replaced. 5. Connect negative cable to battery. 6. Check electrical operation of switch. ab7076e7-9719-44a3-b66a-8584c6b2a3c1.jpg bfaa43e6-23a3-4771-9d95-55c2c3bf0a78.jpg

The blinkers and wipers and radio dont work unless the key is turned backwards, if the jeep is running none of these work, this is a 1999 jeep wrangler tj

sounds like the accessory side of the ignition switch is not working. When the key is on run position the same wire that is hot coming out when the key is turned to accessory should be hot, along with the ignition wire that runs the engine. (hot meaning it has 12v)

Engine will not turnover

If there is no power coming IN to the starter relay - the ignition module has failed.
Replace the Ignition.

The ignition switch is stuck in the off position and i mean stuck. The key goes in all the way with no problum but the switch will not turn keeping the stering wheel and gearshifter locked. so what i am...

I had the same problem and was told the pins inside the ignition start to lock up on older vehicles. This could also be caused by having a heavy key chain or many keys causing weight to hang from the ignition. I was informed the only way to fix it was to replace and rekey a new ignition which runs about $300-400. I can wiggle mine when this happens and usually get it to move. I'm going to ride mine out as long as possible.

1998 Wranger Ignition Key Stuck / Steering Column Locked

I have had this same problem on 4 of my Jeeps. A locksmith provided me with two answers.
This key thing happens to me at least once a week.
It is a common problem with Jeeps. 1998 Wrangler, 2007 Cherokee and two 2000 Cherokees all had the issue.

1. Replace the tumbler assembly. $150. USD (Not!)
2. Place the key in the ignition, smartly impact the key on the **** end, end that is sticking out of the ignition. (Harder is not better) strike straight on as to not break the key off. 4 or 5 strikes should fix the problem every time.

FYI - flooding the switch with WD-40 will not fix the issue, it is a tumbler problem.

2003 jeep wranger

Sometimes the ignition lock cylinder and the parts that it operates may become jammed. The only remedy I can recommend short of disassembling the steering column is to try working the key in and out, back and forth, while working the steering wheel from side to side at the same time in order to dislodge any binding parts from operating.
