Need more info i had a 1984 chevy half ton and first, second, and third worked fine but lock up didnt work. the problem was there was no vacum at a switch under the hood on the fire wall also your shift linkage could be out of adjustment. try driving down the road and raise up a little on the shifter.

2000 larado won't shift from 2nd to 3rd

Hello. It seems your vehicle's transmission has to be rebuilt/replaced. Any automatic transmission that won't 'shift' from 1st gear into 2nd or 3rd gear has a 'worn' slave cylinder that 'slides' gears one way or another. 1st gear works yet 2nd and 3rd don't. Good luck and keep me informed; if you want to.

92 chevy s10 4x4 4.3L manual transmission no 3rd gear

Hi:

Your transmission has 3 shift rails...
1st - 2nd
3rd -4th
5th- Reverse

If your 3rd gear doesn't work , you have an internal transmission problem, such as a syncronizer, or similar fail... There is not much you can fix, without removeing the transmission.

Need to repair manual transmission gears or rear end gears? My 97 S-10 pickup broke down after a hundred mile trip. I was driving on a hill and shifted into 3rd gear but when I pressed the gas it didnt...

If the trucks moves in 1st gear it wouldn't be the rear end. In a manual transmission 2nd and 3rd are on the same shaft. If you are mechanically inclined or have a good friend that is go on-line to faxonautoliterature. Follow the instructions on the home page and for between $25 and $40 you can pick up a GM service manual for your transmission that will help you repair your transmission in stead of replace. They also list a service manual for the complete truck for $129 if you want. Hope this helps.

1997 cavalier w/automatic, and wont shift out of 2nd gear.

Need to pull codes 1st, the electronics of the transmission can cease all proper operation of the transmission. Have the DTC's checked before proceeding.

Desciption of the gear positions on the automatic gear shift

The gearbox normally shifts like this in "D":

1st gear to 2nd gear

2nd gear to 3rd gear

3rd gear to OverDrive

If you have the selector in "2", it will not make the final 2 shifts. "2" is nice for descending very steepo hills slowly, and also is nice to use coming down hills when it is icy/snowy, the engine will slow down in "2", and you will not have to depress the brake pedal.
