this happened to my dads truck and after he would fill up with gas his dashboard would light up like the fourth of july. the problem is a little computer motor inside the dashboard that costs about $2. but if u take it to a shop its about 700$
Hi:
The gas cap is usually a good suspect in this case, but to figure it out, you need to have your code scanned to figure out what is causing the light. Most auto parts stores will scan it for free, so give them a shot
This is a common problem with Malibu's. It is due to cheap metal in the fuel gage that corrodes. Chevrolet knows about this but they refuse to issue a fix. The check engine light staying on and the faulty fuel gage are related. This is a defect and they need to recall this part! Raise hell with the dealership!
make sure that the gas cap have a rubber gasket in it if it has accidentaly dropped off while you removed to fill the tnk it will not seal properly and create a vacum leak causing the ecm to turn on the light.
or did you have an accident or did you run over any thing that could have damaged the vapor canister at the bottom of the vehicle and if this is the case you will see the light on because a damaged canister can cause a vacum leak
