A bad TPS causes a hesitation in the same spot when you accelerate. It's like a dead spot.

SOURCE: 1997 Honda Civic EX power loss

start with the easy stuff. check the plugs. make sure they are not wet with oil leaking from the spark plug stem seals located on the rocker cover. Check your air filter to make sure its clean. Now for the slightly harder stuff. The spark plug wires should be changed every 80k or so. My suspect the reason for the power loss is most likely a clogged cat convert in the exhaust system. check your exhaust flow. Way to do that is to check the temp. of the exhaust before the cat and the temp. after the cat. If the Cat is plugged the temp before the catalytic converter will be abnormally higher than after the cat.

BUT if you are experiencing misfire of engine. I would go straight to replacing spark plugs and wires. Distributor cap and rotor.

Also check the charging system. make sure the alternator is charging the battery at above 13Volts. With all components on. ( radio/lights/highbeam/AC). Use a voltmeter and check at the battery positive and negative. if its not charging above 13 V replace the alternator.

good luck

Replace the complete distributor. They are available on Ebay, brand new for a bout $100. or at any auto parts store for a little more. It sounds like the module inside the distributor popped but it could be one of the pick-ups, or maybe the coil as well. Rather than wasting a lot of time and money trying to figure out which one, just get a complete new distributor. It comes complete with a new cap, rotor, module, coil, pick-ups.
These are a very, very common problem.

Trans will not shift without lifting foot off the gas

Check TPS for smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion. If not, replace. The TPS (throttle position sensor) is used by the ECM to calculate when to shift the transmission at different speed and engine load. A faulty TPS will give wrong information the ECM and you will experience the issues your are describing.
Thank you for using fixya and i am guessing your Car or truck is 1996 and newer.

My car stutters when i drive in high rpm? i changed the fuel filter and put additives to clean my gas tank and clean my throttle.

Best thing to do is go to Auto Zone and have the car scanned for any DTC codes, There are just to many things that can be causing your engine to stutter on high RPM'S. Keep me posted and we can go from there, If your running a performance oiled air filter like K&N, buy some MAF sensor cleaner and give it a good cleaning. Also check your TPS for damaged wire or a faulty TPS it self. Good luck, be glad to help.
