Drastic drop in gas mileage

I have a 2005 jeep liberty and recently noticed i have lost allot of gas mileage. down to 200 miles to the tank. My jeep prior to this averaged 350-400 miles to a tank and has drastically dropped. i am an easy driver not to ******* the pedal and last changed my oil, air filter and disconnected my battery which helped out although it has started to drop back down again. My liberty only has around 65000 miles on it and i keep it in tip top shape. what would be the cause of such poor gas mileage?

Well you may need to have it serviced even though your not too hard on it. try a complete tune up and see how the milage is affected

when was the last time you put in fuel injector cleaner? I put in Lucas Oil Injector cleaner every other or every oil change.

There are alot of factors affecting your gas mileage. Tire wear, tire pressure, wheel alignment, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, oxygen sensors, just to name a few. So to say what you need is just shooting in the dark without more information. I would probably start with your oxygen sensors, and then perform a tuneup. If your vehicle pulls to one side or the other when driving on the highway you need to stop into the shop for a wheel alignment.

SOURCE: poor gas mileage on my jeep liberty

Did this happen overnight or was it a gradual loss? Did you do any kind of repair before you lost the gas mialage? Is there a check engine light on or did it come on and go off? Did anything weird happen before the jeep got bad gas mileage? It's hard to diagnose a problem like this without actually touching the car.
Any other info might help me steer you in the right direction.

You might also want to vary where you buy your gas. I lost approx. 5 - 6 miles per gallon (translates to over 100 miles less per tank) earlier this year. After conducting a bit of an experiment I realized it was only when I bought gas from one particular distributor (Spinx). I have since stopped filling up at all Spinx stations and my mileage has returned to it's previous level.

2005 Jeep Liberty 3.7L overheating

it's overheating, for sure,
is coolant levels dropping? cold checked at rad cap?
"pulled over and found a hose to cool the radiator and hose near the thermostat,"
i can not understand this statement"above"
if it overheat only parked, check fan for full ops.
if overheats moving too, wont stay cool moving fast
then:
bad rad cap
bad thermostat , they have 7 year life says STANT. (and why)
belts slipping (to water pump)
rad cores blocked (IR thermo gun it) ask
water pump impellers rust 1/2 gone?

all this assumes no coolant loss, if you have loss, tell where.,
where it leans
ground
passengers toes (foot well)
engine oil pan? milky oil
if A/T TRANS, check it for milky too.

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 and it gets 200 miles per tank and will not kick down on highway or around town. WHat could be causing this problem?

Well first, is the overdrive on or are you in the overdrive gear, also sorry to tell you but these v-8 jeeps get real bad gas mileage, i think highway mileage is 18 and city 14,if you were getting better mileage and the trany is actting up then that will cause the lower mileage, good day.

The mileage on my Jeep has dropped from 16 to 12 mpg in the last 3-4 weeks. I have been pulling a popup tent trailer behind it (only weighs about 1,600 lbs.), but the mileage drop has been evident even...

These are the most common causes for bad mileage.
Tire pressure is a huge factor (Tire should be set at the factory recommendation or 1-2 psi above, but never below - Tire should also be a Low Rolling Resistance Tire)
Oil level (you said it's OK, so I assume it's not above the full mark)
Running extra accessories (A/C, etc)
Dirty Air Filter
bad Ignition timing
engine running hotter than normal
fuel injectors may be stuck partially open
bad fuel pressure regulator
faulty emission control device (this usually triggers a check engine light)

Check engine light on in our 2005 Jeep Liberty

Drop in to autoparts place & get free code scan & go from there. (write it down & get back to us, or ask them at store.) Autozone & Pep boys I believe will do free scan.

Poor gas mileage on my jeep liberty

change your spark plugs if they haven't been changed in awhile. check your tires for the propper psi there should be a sticker on the inside of your drivers door that will tell you recomended air pressures go by this not the recomendations on the tires. also where are you getting you gas does it contain ethanol sometimes this can burn faster.

to increase gas mileage make sure you keep on top of tire air pressure you can also have your tires filled with nitrogen instead of air also a K&N air filter does wonders and is good for lifetime worth every penny. another smart move is to use a fuel system cleaner regularly Lucas makes great products for this try local parts store.
