You should call your local Acura Dealer. Some of these TL's had additional warranty coverage for similar transmission problems. I would first see if you car qualifies for any Manufacturer support.

SOURCE: tranny slips & wont shift past 2nd gear

tranny slips can also mean that you may need to change the tranny filter. But just like cooking oil at first it is thick then you add heat and it gets thinner, same for tranny oil which could also mean that your tranny needs gear and plate work. The easiest way to find out is to insert the oil dip stick, clean it with a paper towel and check to see if you can see metal shivers or if the color of the tranny oil is not red but silverish, these are usually indictative of a tranny that needs an overhaul. hope this helps.

Good Luck =)

SOURCE: Transmission Slippage

You can have the clutch and the pressure plate checked. If it is an automatic tranny you may try to drain the fluid and have it replaced or have the solenoid cleaned out or checked. The solenoid controls the hydraulic pressure to the clutch

No not a sensor, you need to have the Alternator tested, sounds like your running off the battery, most auto parts stores do it for free

I have a 99 Acura TL and it is shifting erratically, slipping and not going into certain gears.. . When I put it in reverse it wont engage or when it does it feels like the transmission is about to fall...

The transmission has to come out & be rebuilt

Once they slip your done

Then install all new motor & transaxle mounts
& change your trans fluid every 3 years, on all your
vehicles or they will suffer the same fate as well

Change your power steering fluid every 3 years or the rack will fail like transmissions do
