The Electronic Throttle Control light is flashing in the dash of my 2003 Ram 2500 with the 5.7 Hemi. The Malfunction Indicator Light is also on. The truck still runs fine, no missing or hesitation. What do I need to do to fix the problem?
I took my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi to a mechanic that works from a garage at his home, recommended by a friend of mine. He removed and cleaned the throttle body and sensor(s?), then reinstalled them, and then disconnected both battery cables and held them together for 2 minutes so that the engine controller could reboot with the factory default settings, then reconnected them. I had bought a can of throttle body cleaner on my way over to his house for about $3.00. He charged me $40.00 for the job. This was done mid-February, about 10 weeks and 2500 miles ago. So far, the problem Has Not happened again, the truck has been running great!
I had this problem with my 2004 Ram with 5.7 Hemi. The check engine light would come on, it had a hesitation at a certain rpm range and would shut off on me from time to time. Took it to my mechanic and he said the electric throttle sensor wasn't reading correctly and my EGR valve was out. He fixed both problems, but then had to send the truck to the Dodge dealer to get the computer reflashed and the dealer is the only one that can do it. Cost about $500, but after that, no more problems. Better performance and fuel mileage.
I have a '03 Ram 2500 with the Hemi. This is the second time that it had happened to me. I was on the Interstate doing about 75 with the cruise control on both times. One time I was towing a small boat. Both times I pulled over and checked the manual, since it was about 2 years apart. I shut off the engine, started it about 5 mins later and problem solved. CEL stayed on but ETC light went out. Is there a recall for this problem? I checked, but could not find one. Maybe we should all complain to Dodge and cause a recall.

The ETC light is simply an indicator that notifies you when something is wrong with the system. There are multiple controls and sensors that make up this system. When the light comes on in my truck, and then comes on in your truck, it could be for completely different things. You need to bite the bullet, take it to a dodge dealer and have them pull codes or look at a live feed... it is called "job security" for us mechanics. The light will come back on tomorrow or three months from now if all you do is turn off your engine or disconnect the battery. Same as putting a band aid on a broken bone. This is not faulty engineering or a recall issue. It is a feature that protects your engine. It will either kick your engine into limp mode, or shut it down to prevent further damage. The person above talking about the neighborhood mechanic fixing it, I believe, got lucky so-to-say that was the issue, might work for you, but wouldn't count on it necessarily. But this is the "fun" part of our new vehicles having all the bells and whistles and all the sensors, controls and wiring to make your neighbor envious. It can be tedious, and generally a pain-in-the-*** to find some of these issues and can be expensive to chase the wires and possibilities if a code doesn't flash. If that light is on, there is a fault with the system somewhere. It sucks, but ****, I love my Hemi!
The ect light is blinking and the the engine is running rough on my 07 dodge caliber sxt

This dodge form addresses this problem and will help you fix your problem.
I've replaced the ETC twice in 3 years on my 2003 Ram 2500. Now it's flashing AGAIN! The truck is running fine tho. Ugh! Why is this happening repeatedly?

The ETC Light was flashing the check engine came on, I experience reduced performance. I turn the engine off at 70 mph the light stop flashing, the check engine stayed on , the next morning the check engine was off. It happen again about 200 mile later.
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram HEMI with the same problem. When the flashing red lightning bolt is on, it feels like the truck loses overdrive or something of that nature. I have to pull off the side of the road and shut the truck off, then restart. After that, the lightning bolt is off, but the check engine light is on. Sometimes it's only on for the rest of the day, other times it's on for 3-4 days.
I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi and having the same problem. While driving, the malfunction indicator light and the electronic throttle control light will both come on at the same time, (the mil will be steady and the etc light will be flashing) and the feeling of a sudden reduction of power. I pull over ASAP and turn the engine off and let it sit for a minute.(on one occasion it died on me while I was pulling over). When I start it again the mil will be on and the etc light will not. The next day I start it, sometimes the mil will be on and sometimes not, if not it will be coming on immediately at the same time the etc light starts flashing, (usually within 5-10 miles).
I've got thge same problem on my 2003 2500 hd 5.7. Took 6 different dealerships/repair shops to figure out it was the throttle body. It was replaced and all was good til about a month ago when it started doing it again....and guess what, not covered under warranty. I can only hope the ford or chevy dealer will give me half of what this piece of c**p is worth when i trade it in. Which dodge leaves me no other option when they will do nothing for me or this problem except take my check. Oh and by the way....the whole front end has be replaced and this truck has never been off road and only tows a boat now and then. You would think i had 200,000 miles on it instead of 54,000.
I have a 2004 Dodge Durango 5.7L Hemi and my throttle light came on about 2 weeks ago. It does not flash or anything like that, I have noticed that it is wasting more gas and every once and a while it does not want to start in the morning. After cranking over for the second time it starts. My check engine turned on yesterday and I got a code P0123 -Throttle position sensor high voltage. The check engine light turned off today, but the throttle light is still on... Any suggestions??? I bought the TPS and was going to replace it but the check engine light is off.... which means it could be an intermittent code right?
electronic throttle control light
my etc light is on, my battery is good my alternator is good and just replaced the starter it ran good for a few days and now wont start wont even turn over, even with a jump
i got code P0157 but not sure if this is related to the stalling problem or not
check the throttle body. If any dust stores there or any issues in the vacuum can cause the throttle part occur such problems.
