2002 530i "OIL" microfilter - DOES THIS PART EXIST?

OBJECTIVE: Get proper Oil Change for 2002 530i...without getting screwed. ISSUE / QUESTION: Does a 2002 530i have an "OIL" microfilter? DILEMMA: FIRST - Called BMW dealership, asked price quote for Oil Change on 2002 530i. Service Representative stated, "$300+ without replacing microfilter, and $500+ with replacing microfilter." SECOND - Then called BMW parts department, in same dealership, and parts representative said, "I have a 2002 530i and there is no "OIL" microfilter for the 2002 530i. When you do an oil change its just oil filter and oil; no 'OIL' microfilter." QUESTION OF THE DAY: Is it the Service Representative or the Parts Representative that doesn't know what he is talking about??? (Is there or is there not an "OIL" microfilter?)

THe microfilter is just the filter. The oil filter is available off the shelf at advance auto parts. It's the original equipment German brand, "Mann". It's about $12.00. The price of $300 you were quoted is more the range for a transmission oil change, not engine oil.

Don't be confused about the word"microfilter". Again, it just means the filter, same as any other car.

If your talking about what would a dealership change, it generally consists of a tune up, including spark plugs, plug wires, air filter, oil change, pcv valve, and fuel filter. Thats also usually when they want to replace the timing belts. There may be one or two other things specific to BMW, but generally thats what you can expect.

Be Carefull When Getting an Oil Change

I have a friend who called me and said his Toyota four runner had stopped. I came to assist him to find out he just got an oil change. I look under the vehicle and there were traces of excessive oil leak. I found out that whoever did the oil change did not screw in the oil filter in and so the engine locked up. When getting an oil change before you even drive the car inspect for any oil leak with the engine idling. There are a lot on incompetent mechanics out there. Some of them are even ASE certified!! The one who told me a car will run for 3 days without oil was ASE certified, that's scary. He didn't want to be called a mechanic he said he is a technician. The place where he got the oil change is also a 24 hour shopping place and has stores all over the country ( you know which one I am talking about). I can't mention names.

I was driveing my 99 chevy malibu and I smelled gas and all of a sudden it died it tried to fire but didn't. I checked the oil and it smelled gassy . I turned on switch to hear fuel pump and ots working. I...

Yeah, If the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line has gas in it, change the regulator. I'd also change the oil and filter as many times as necessary to get the gas out of the oil, after you fix the problem.
You could check proper fuel pressure. Sometimes you might smell gas with evap system leak. Any applicable trouble codes?

Volvo S80 Error Code 014

That is a cam shaft issue. The reason that they say that it might be oil sludge is because of variable valve timing. That system uses oil pressure to vary the cam activity according to the driving conditions.
If you have done regular oil changes on the car, I doubt that it is a oil related issue. You can take it to some place like grease monkey and have the engine flushed to see if that helps. What they are going to do is similar to putting 50/50 oil and diesel fuel in and run it till it gets warm then drop the mix and put in real oil. This is a tough one to diagnose without a scope to check activity on the cam sensor. It could be a flat spot on the cam.

Toyota Celica p1349

The computer sets this code when the camshaft position sensor feedback indicates the camshaft timing is not responding properly to the control signals being sent to the oil valve that changes the camshaft timing. You can try an oil change first, if the oil is dirty. If the engine has not had regular oil changes, odds are it will have to be taken apart and desludged. If maintenance has been good, the problem may be with the oil control valve, the VVT actuator on the end of the camshaft, or the wiring of either the oil valve or camshaft position sensor.

My oil light keeps coming on and i changed my oil and itstill comes on. there are no oil spots unde thecar or puddles of oil .

Several issues could exist:
Faulty light - get computer code reading no code good chance its a light/short
Oil pump low pressure test with external pressure meter
Oil pressure sending unit

Once you determine you have oil pressure is good then its a fair chance you have a bad sending unit otherwise its a bad oil pump. Replacing an oil pump is not hard if you ca get the pan off without lifting the motor, Otherwise this is a big job

How do i change the oil on my 1988 toyota pick up?, and what equiptmemnt do i need? how much oil do i need? and what is the proper weight for the oil....ie 20-50 etc what are the proper part numbers for...

go to a parts store and they will give you all the right supplies and tell you how to do it. There is a drain plug on the bottom of your oil pan take plug out and let oil drain. Take out oil filter by hand or with a oil filter wrench. Take new filter and fill it with as much oil as you can without spilling it all over putting filter back in, apply a thin coat of fresh oil to the rubber ring on the oil filter and screw it back on the engine hand tight (do not tighten using a wrench). Put drain plug back in. Fill engine back up with oil. Replace oil cap> Done.
