This van belongs to a church member whose husband is out of town. She said it was broke down and was asking for help. I am coming in trying to pick up the pieces and solve the puzzle. Van would not start one day. Crank but not start. Was getting spark and fuel. Removed computer to take to get checked at Napa Auto. Checked good. Reinstalled and went through security sequence. Surprise! Fired right up with a high engine idle that would not settle down. Check engine light on that when scanned said the Throttle Position Sensor was bad. After R&R TPS, still has same problem. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Doesn' t sound to have a vacuum leak. The plugs, wires, and distributor cap have also been replaced.
It could possibly be the vacuum hose. It could have a leak or air could have gotten in it some other way. Try and get the van towed to a shop and see if they can **** the air out of the hose and see if it starts or if they can find a leak so that it can be fixed.
It is the choke that has gone out would be my suspicion check if the high idle continues when the motor has warmed up. Sounds like you have done a great job so far.
Hi,
Could you please let us know the CEL (Check Engine Light) code.
Sometimes, it happens that different problems lead to different code.
Did you change the Throttle position sensor ?
Also check if the spark plug cables are fine.
Thanks,
It is a vaccum leak sir.
