Mercedes sl500 misfires under load

Misfires under load. Always worse if car not driven for a week or more. If used every day hardly noticeable. No arcing on HT leads that can be observed. Fuel pumps runs up and stops as per normal when up to pressure.

Hi,You need to carefully take out the injectors making sure you don`t break the rubber O rings after depressurising the system, then leave them to soak in petrol overnight, you then need to blow them out with an air blower attached to a compressor,by making a snug fit to the inlet side of the injector,a short blast should make a peeeep noise when you do this ,just a couple of short blasts if you have some carb cleaner spray you can sometimes get the little spray tube in the top of the injector to do the same thing,BE WARNED carb cleaner is very powerful solvent and not nice to you or anything else but is really good at cleaning out injectors so use a rag to catch the spray,I have done this lots of times and is cheaper than new injectors at £120.00 each if they are still no good after cleaning them you will have no choice but to replace them, the fuel distribution heads are also prone for siezeing so you need to check this but if it runs on 6 it should only be the injectors stuck due to dried petrol corrosion inside,Hope it works, let me know
Darren.

It sounds like the fuel strainer is clogged or one of the filters is clogged. start by taking the fuel primer pump and attempt to prime system if the pump handle sucks back down when you attempt to pump there is a clog in the system. There is a lot of water in diesel fuel and they build up algea over a number of years and generally the fuel strainer(part at fuel tank that the feed line attatches too) clog up. you can remove them and clean them. Good luck

I'll keep this very short. Replace your Mass Air Flow sensor(MAF). You can get a used one usually and be just fine. Check out silverstar auto recycling in Fresno, CA.. Great service. I've done a lot of business with them.

03 SL500 REPLACED SPARK PLUGS, COILS STILL MISFIRES ON 1 WHAT ELSE?

Switch spark plugs, ignition coils and fuel injectors from cyl 1 to 3.
See if misfire goes to cyl. 3. If that happens replace the damaged part.
If is still on cyl. 1 check the compression of the cyl. 1.
If that's ok see if the air mass sensor is working fine.
Also check if there is oil in the plug of the lambda sensor.

I fought with similar problem on my sub for a couple years. Had both a sub dealer and ind mechanic check. Spent lots of money but it still happened. Eventually I solved it by replacing vacuum hoes and putting clamps on them. Seems it was a slight vacuum leak. Worse under load (going uphill) and especially when cold.

Check the fuel pressure regulator, make sure it's working properly and also clean out the MAF sensor with MAFcleaner. it sounds like your having the engine go lean under load. Good luck
