Oil was 1/2 quart low, a friend was borrowing it and the motor started knocking. She drove it about 3 miles before realizing that it was knocking. I put oil in however, I ended up putting 5 quarts in. The motor is not seized up, the knocking has subsided a little bit but has not quit. The knocking gets worse as the vehicle idles up. I was told it could be a crank bearing?? Please help.

same problem , it is a flaw in the piston ring design, which causes it to burn an excessive amount of oil, leaving you with a quart or less when it eats up the rod bearings on the crank, yes a rebuild is the only solution, a motor with lesser miles is still prone to the same happenings due to it having the same defective parts. Some after market companies have aftermarket design piston rings and pistons in an engine rebuild kit for the 3.2 as well as the 3.5 motors with this problem
is this a tap or a knock?
