Follow the vacuum lines on the egr valve to the solenoid that actuates the egr valve.
Check the fig and see the yellow arrow pointing solenoid and the white arrow is pointing to the EGR.:--
Check out.Thanks.

Under the hood is an emission system sticker, it has a diagram of the vacuum system that shows this valves general location, it is in most cases right next to the Carbon Vapor storage canister.

Evaporative Emission Purge Solenoid
Description & Operation
The duty cycle EVAP canister purge solenoid (DCP) regulates the rate of vapor flow from the EVAP canister to the intake manifold. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) operates the solenoid.
During the cold start warm-up period and the hot start time delay, the PCM does not energize the solenoid. When de-energized, no vapors are purged. The PCM de-energizes the solenoid during open loop operation.
The engine enters closed loop operation after it reaches a specified temperature and the time delay ends. During closed loop operation, the PCM cycles (energizes and de-energizes) the solenoid 5 or 10 times per second, depending upon operating conditions. The PCM varies the vapor flow rate by changing solenoid pulse width. Pulse width is the amount of time that the solenoid is energized. The PCM adjusts solenoid pulse width based on engine operating condition.
Removal & Installation
The duty cycle evaporative (EVAP) canister purge solenoid is located in the engine compartment near the brake master cylinder.

We bought a used '02 montero limited from dealer. Within days of bringing it home we had a few issues. One was with the power antenna, no biggie. The second thing to happen was a delay with the truck engaging in drive. It doesn't happen every time. I would say 1 time out of 15. We unsuccessfully tried to figure out if there was a situation in which it would do it every time. Seemingly no rhyme nor reason. Then the service engine soon light came on. When we had it tested the code that came up was p0445, I think. We took it back to the dealership and they replaced the purge solenoid and said they couldn't get it to repeat the shift problem. Is it possible that that solenoid was causing the delay? We just got the truck back today and so far it seems fine.
The code was p0455
