The only problem you could have ,is that the brakes were
not bleed using the correct procedure,so I assume someone
was working in home driveway & doesn't know how

No, the bottom of the strut does not have the fasteners for the brake lines, the internal stroke (suspension travel) of a strut on an Escort is 1.8 inches longer than the Taurus, also the extended length (suspension height) on the Taurus is 3.37 inches longer than the Escort. Go to the "Reference Section" at your local public library.
Find the Chilton's or Motor's manual for the 1998 Ford.
Photocopy the pages you need using the public copy machines (10 ~ 20 cents per page).
You will need a large C Clamp in order to compress the brake caliper piston back into the wheel cylinder. Remove some of the brake fluid from the master cylinder; the fluid will "back-up" into the master cylinder reservoir when you compress the caliper piston.
Only two long bolts hold the floating caliper in place.

most of the time the auto parts can give you the right length.but if i had to gess your looking at 6to 7 feet long 8 ft at the most. it would be a good i dear to re place the line going to each wheel to . because those will be the next one to go good luck
