1998 chevy express 1500 van goes into 1st and 2nd gear but wont shift into 3rd and so forth. OBD2 code PO785 and PO340 keep showing up. how do i fix this

My 98 mercury mystique is missing 3rd gear it goes 1st and 2nd fine but wont go over 30mph and no matter how high the rpm go it wont turn over into 3rd gear Help

The likely problem is the VSS or vehicle speed sensor. The transmission uses the speed from the speed sensor to determine the shift points. You should have the check engine light on it will probably show a code for the speed sensor. Hope this helps!

I have a haynes repair manual for my 1993 chevy astro van ext, its a 4.3 and has the 4L60-E tranny it reads out error code 81 and theres know answer for the code in the manual,the problem im having is the...

Code 81 is brake switch input circuit.The being stuck in third is a limp mode because of a hard code being set.If you repair or replace the brake switch issue you should be fine on the shifting issue.Good luck and let me know if i can help.

1999 chevy silverado...drives in 1st & 2nd gear, but slips when it gets to 3rd gear, then shifts back to 2nd

rebuild or put a used trans in it they have hd zpack made for 3and 4 gear

My 93 chevy truck wont shift into 3rd gear. goes into reverse fine 1st and 2nd gear with no problems and no slipping just wont go into 3rd whats the problem?

I say band adjustment in transmission, have done by shop. might be just a vacuum hose or modulator, but I don't think so

Most likely the second gear section of the transmission has gone bad. There are 3 or 4 different gear sections or assemblies in an automatic transmission, when they go bad, they go bad.

Hi:

Your transmission has 3 shift rails...
1st - 2nd
3rd -4th
5th- Reverse

If your 3rd gear doesn't work , you have an internal transmission problem, such as a syncronizer, or similar fail... There is not much you can fix, without removeing the transmission.

4L 60E - 2001 k1500 will not shift into 3-4. Oil is not burn't and stifts great into1-2

No 3rd or 4th gear: “3-4” clutches are worn out. R&R. The car is safe to drive (in 2) until you can get it fixed.
Trans shifts into gear harshly, car feels sluggish off the line, No 1st, 4th or TCC lockup available, Manual 2nd, 3rd and Reverse are only available gears, CEL is on: Transmission is either in limp-home mode or has lost electrical power. If there are lots of error codes in the PCM, check the under hood fuse that powers the transmission, and if it pops again, look for a short in that circuit like an O2 sensor harness touching exhaust. Otherwise, check PCM codes for a particular fault in the transmission causing the PCM to put it in limp-home mode.
No 1st or 4th available; trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD and locks the converter : Shift A solenoid failed. Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

Check to see if your transmission is in the limp mode, which would only give you 2nd, 3rd and reverse gears. No 1st or 4th gear.

you have a valve body problem, some of the speed sonsor controls are malfunctioning... need to get into the valve body... check fluid condition for dirty and burned condition...
