Transfer case in 99 GMC Suburban

I have an auto 4wd push button transfer case. I took the transmission out of it last winter in a snow storm and since then the 4wd hasn't worked and the "service 4wd" light is on in the instrument cluster. I used to be able to try to engage it but it would only make a buzzing noise and revert back to 2wd mode. Now the lights on the switch are all off and it makes no noise at all. Any ideas would be great.

I have a 98 GMC Suburban K2500 3/4 ton 5.7 engine, Auto, 4wd (Push Button) The Transfer case has just had a complete rebuild. I have installed a new dash switch for the 4WD, & also a new Contr

The selector drive mtor mounted on the transfer case had alot of problems with water getting into the circuit board and also the mtoro drive getting stuck. At the dealership I have replaced hundreds of these over the years.

My "service 4wd" came on and my push button 2wd,4wd, auto 4wd lights are off...is this expensive to fix?

You definitely need to have it serviced & checked out...The service 4WD indicator read across my screen, but I did not have serviced...Eventually, I heard a grinding noise & because I didn't have it serviced when I took it in, it was found that the transfer case had no tranfer case fluid at all...This damaged the transfer case which had to be replaced (used transfer case-$400.00)....The transfer case is part of your transmission...The shape mine was in could have broke my transmission...Have it taken care off before it gets too bad...You must use only GMC Transfer Case Fluid

Transfer case fluid for 99 suburban

If it has auto 4x4. which will have 4 push buttons on the dash it will take auto trac fluid that you will need to get at your local GM dealer. A regular transfer case will take Automatic transmission fluid.
