We replaced the engine in a 2003 chevy express van and now it will not start. the security light only comes on sometimes and stays on. the little line under the P for park in dash display dissapears after about 8 seconds. It will only crank over while its there but after the little line goes away it won't crank over at all

You may want to check your wires. I would also recommend to check for 6-12V w/ DIGITAL multimeter@ TPL and Idling sensor, right under intake manifold. If you have questions let me know I don't have the schematics for the connector w/me right know, but can e-mail them to you if you still have the problem. I had a similar problem as well.

Start with fuel system. Listen for fuel pump humm at fuel tank No humm check wiring to pump for power. Then check for spark at plugs and wires. Remove wire from coil and hold near engine and see arch when you crank. No arch. Replace ignition Modular inside distributor cap or cap or rotor

you are on a search and destroy mission, i recommend you buy a manual with wiring diagram, at least it will tell you what is hooked on that circuit, thenits a matter of testing wiring, i suspect you have a short somewhere
Testimonial: "Well, thanks for the opinion, even though I read it after fixing my problem. It was indeed a short, as the cover for the wiring harness was missing, and apparently a wire had rubbed bare and was shorting against the valve cover. I couldn't actually see the bad spot, but by carefully moving it I isolated the spot and taped it up really good and put a new cover in place. Thanks for the quick reply though!"
