The engine temp always shows low then what is should.Guage is sitting roughly a quarter of the way up - If I use the heater then the needle will drop even below the quarter line, surely this is not right ? Is it not meant to be at the half way line ? Do I need to replace the thermostat ?
Testing the thermostat would be my first suggestion. If you can remove the thermostat (when cold), boil a kettle and fill a suitable vessel with boiling water. Carefully put the thermostat into the water and see if it opens (it may take a couple of minutes). It may be stuck open, or a previous vehicle owner may have even removed it (may not be possible on some vehicles). There is a small possibility that the actual temperature sensor is faulty but this is quite unlikely.
SOURCE: headlight replacement 2000 Saab 93
To replace the headlamp on a Saab 9-3, open the hood. Behind the
headlamp there is a round black plastic cover; screw clockwise and pull
back; there is a metal clip holding headlamp in place (9003 i believe
is the halogen number). locate top of clip and move very slightly
clockwise; the top will pivot down on a hinge; release the wire harness
and pull out bulb. Retrace these steps to introduce the new bulb to
your Saab.

SOURCE: Radiator fan doesn't always turn on when engine gets hot
check fuses #25 and #6 (both 30 amp)
the fan thermostat is on the left side of the rad.
turn the ignition on, and after pulling back the boot, short across the two terminal with a screwdriver.
if the fan runs, fan and wiring are both good.
if it only runs when thermoswitch is shorted like this, switch needs to be replaced (get the low temp switch to prevent overheating - your temp gauge will not go over the middle position even on the hottest days; also get a low temp thermostat, and ALWAYS get a Saab stat, not an after market!)
if the fan doesn't run when switch is shorted, check for valtage between green wire and ground at the switch.
Voltage indicates faulty fan, if no voltage then check the fan relay J in the main fuse box.

under the rear seat is a hole that has the wire connectors going to the fuel pump, see if the wire connectors are hooked up properly. if not than you will have to replace the fuel pump.its a complete assembly. in order to that you will have to remove the gas tank. orielly sells an after market pump for 400. dollars and it will include the float and gas tank sending unit.
