Rplacing the ignition switch

The key is stuck in the ignition and will not turn back all the way so I can remove it. I had to pop the hood and pull a dist. cap wire to shut the truck off. i ordered a new switch but need advice on how to replace it. My Haynes book shoews a different type of steering wheel. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you I have a 97 S10 Chevy truck and I cannot remove the key. It won't turn all the back and come out. If I jiggle the key for awhile, it sometimes comes out. The repair shop said it's something in my shifting gear that is keeping it locked in, which I think is total ....well you know. I think they just don't know how to fix it. They just replaced the ignition switch in Aug!! Can anyone help me from getting ripped off by the repair shop?

The Chevy S-10 pick up has got to be in the park position in order to remove the key. The problem is that the key is stuck in the acc position. The vehicle starts and turns off just fine, just can't remove the key from the ignition. After some jiggling of the key it will come out. So I do suspect something in the switch itself, maybe the plunger, or in the gear shift, maybe the solenoid, or lever is sticking??

It's an automatic. I have already replaced the ignition switch. The problem now is that the key keeps getting stuck in the switch. After jiggling the key back and forth, etc. than it comes out, but in the meantime it's stuck in the acc mode.

I also cannot get the key out of my 1993 Chevy Suburban. I cannot get the truck to turn off. Have put it in neutral and still cannot get the key out or the truck turned off. I have not tried the distibutor cap yet - which wire would I pull?

Or - if there are any other alternatives, a response would be greatly appreciated. Have been working with this for 2 hours and I am a mom with 2 young children that need to go to sleep.

Thank you for your time and again - ANY help is appteciated!

There is a safety switch that prevents the ignition from being turned off and removed while in gear. try putting in nuetral and removing the key. if it does then it is a problem with the shifter and not the ignition.

2013 mustang v6 premium bcm

You may be setting the code when you bypass the relay. If it sees voltage on that circuit when the ignition switch IS NOT in crank position, it will assume the circuit to be stuck high and can set that code.

In your enhanced datastream menu for either engine or PATS, does it show starter command engaged when you turn the key? There is a dataline for it in both sections. If it changes to YES but the car still wont crank unless you jump the relay, then the relay has failed or the wire(s) from the fusebox /PCM/FEM/park neutral switch may have a break in it. If the data pid DOES NOT change to START/ACTIVE, then the start signal is not being commanded, likely because the key turned to crank input is not reaching the BCM or ECM. You have a decent tool for the job, now start reviewing your datalines for key position, immobilizer/pats status, trans gear position, etc etc.

95 Tbird won't turn off with key

Go under the dash and check to see if the ignition starter switch is coming apart is the first thing to check. The switch is operated by a long rod from the ignition switch, it is near the base of the steering column tube on top of it. The other poss is that the tilt steering is going south and needs new parts for the rod actuator down to the switch.

Like others, my key is stuck in the ignition of my cadillac CTS. Car starts and turns off but the ignition will not turn back beyond the accessory possition and the battery has died.

there is a switch in shifter that lets ign. turn back when in park. switch does not come seperate. shifter replacement is req. there is a plug in steering column that can be removed then you put a small screw driver in to push on override button to allow key to turn back. it is located below key.

Key does not turn on ignition. Won't turn at all. Cannot start the car or have it towed since it is stuck in park.

Have new key cut, stop at hardware store and get liquid wrench spray ,spray lube in cylider, then put key in and out several times briskly before trying to turn.If this does not work open hood and pop shift cable of trans selector lever and reach down and move lever to neutral position two notches.then can tow.

Ignition switch wont turn off the motor

I have the same problem. It's the ignition switch actuator rod. I've already went thru the lock and ign. switch, both are fine.

Rplacing the ignition switch

You will need to remove the steering wheel. Then you will need to use a steering wheel lock remover to remove the lock plate. This can be purchased at most auto parts stores for 20 to 40 dollars. Next you should be able to remove the retaining screw in the ignition switch( be careful not to drop the screw in the colum housing). You may have to work the key back and forth to get the old switch out. Just repeat this process in reverse to install the new key switch.
