2009 Ford Focus gets very wet floorboard in rear seat drivers side when driven in the rain

Does not happen when parked and its raining. Pulled up carpet, no obvious cause. Hosed doors/windows and underside of car, could not reproduce the leak. Dried carpet, reinstalled. Next time it was driven in the rain, soaking wet again.

I used to get a shower when it rained, until I cleaned the sunroof drain holes (as Mike said).
Hope this helps.

Does it have a sun roof and the drains are plugged up?

  • Anonymous Jun 13, 2012

It doesn't have a sun roof. But I appreciate your response. Have looked for any visible "clean trails" leading toward the floor board, can't find anything. No wetness found on seat or anything, just the floor board.

Hello whitbren, I just purcahsed an 08 focus and discovered this problem after going through a fairly large puddle recently. Before that, I drove a 500 mile road trip through a terrible rain storm and had no problems. Did you ever find a solution to this problem?

SOURCE: my 2001 ford focus recently started getting a wet

If its not raining then you will need the heater core inspected. Chances are your coolant is low so better check it.

My 2000 ford crown Victoria. Have water on the rear passenger side floor. What could be the problem

Hey Grady..
There are few things that could cause the water intrusion... Is the carpet in the front floorboard wet?.. ..Has it rained recently? This will rule out window seals leaking? Have you opened the trunk and checked to see if water is in the trunk? OK..IF it has not rained, no water in the trunk, AND the front floorboards are wet, then the heater core is leaking...

Grady.. sounds like its either the window seals or the door seals.. check for damaged door seals, cracked window seals..

1998 Volvo C70 - water on floorboard after rain. Hi, anybody out there having experienced water on the floorboards after rain? My Car is always parked outside on the street, so the weather goes to work on...

most likely cause is water intrusion through the cabin filter

pull the filter
if wet then you need to find something that diverts water away
many OEM's have had this problem but nothing on file for this vehicle

I have a 2001 Ford Mustang with 71,000 miles. My

If you have a wet seat then it is likely defective weather stripping around the window.

Try this. If the floor is dry, then it rains and the floor remains dry, only gets wet after a drive in the rain or on wet streets, you may have a hole somewhere.

Check for holes from missing rubber grommets or holes in the floorboard or firewall from rust. Check for any rust holes or missing rubber grommets under the car or on the firewall, anywhere water can splash up into the vehicle from driving in rain or running through puddles..

Check wet spots along the carpeting all the way up under the dash, if the wet spot is higher than the floor itself, you could be getting the water from splashing through puddles.

Any holes under the car or in the fenderwell even up on the firewall can cause this problem.

First check for any obvious signs of rust, if none are found then look for missing or defective rubber grommets.

Rear floorboard behind driver set wet after rain

do you have a sun roof, if so start there, because there are two hoses at the back corners of the roof pan that allow water to drain, if they leak, they will soak the rear floorboards, and if not that check the door jam seals.(note that if the plugs on the floor are missing that will be verry hard not to have wet carpet)........let me know?
