Either Thermostat is sticking or water pump is going bad. Water pump usually spit out water through small hole of diaphram. Only way to check thermostat is pull it out. Then you might as well replace it.

SOURCE: My 1998 ford taurus overheats when idling but

Check your your radiator cooling fan should come on at about 220 deg. and off at about 210 deg. at idle with a/c off, if it stats to over heat turn a/c on, fan should come on right away, if it dont check voltage at fan motor, if you do have voltage, you have a bad radiator fan motor, more then likely the reason it don't over heat while driving is air is being push through radiator where it cool's the coolant before it goes back into the engine, at stop's no air running through and never cool's coolant .

SOURCE: 1995 Ford SHO Taurus, MY car is leaking oil and

Sorry TrishaBut it isjust getting old. leaking oil is one thing, but when it starts smoking, its probably the rings on the pistons. It's probably time to startlooking for another car. It would cost much more than the car is worth to repair or replace the engine. Unless you know some one that would do the labor for free.

Drive bad thermostat

Sounds like thermostat is stuck open. What brand did you use? If it's a fail safe, that's your problem. They usually go to fail safe even without an overheat condition right away and lock full open.

2001 FORD TAURUS IDLES BAD

i recently had this issue with my 2001 taurus dohc engine. when you drive it seems that everything is fine. when you stop, the car will idle very low and somethimes shut off. there is a hose under the throttle body that is attached to the pcv valve. over time, this hose will collapse and eign to tear. i replace that hose (autozone for $10) and it solved my idling problem.

My 1996 ford taurus is run hot

You will need to check possible clogged radiator, thermostat, temperature control switch, the water pump, and the resevoir container.

I would have a chemical test ran on the cooling system to make sure it does not have a bad head gasket as well or a warped head. How fast will it overheat, and does it only overheat while driving or even sitting there at idle?

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

I have a 1995 saturn.it only overheats when i drive it.it does fine when it idles.i have changed the water pump thermostat fan motor and radiator cap and flushed the whole system and it still overheats.

If your car is overheating when you drive it,but you have replaced and made sure the radiator fan motor is working and coming on,you have flushed the system and replaced all your cooling components, then you may have a blown head gasket.Check for a milky white look to your oil dipstick. If so,you have a blown head gasket.or you might also have an air pocket in your cooling system that you need to bleed out.Good luck.

1995 Taurus 70,000 miles. When sitting at a light or what naught, the oil light flickers. Checked the oil, at full level. This vehicle has had it's oil changed every 3500 miles.

I would verify the actual oil pressure is with a "wet gauge'. The sending unit may be bad. I would also verify if it's idling at the right idle speed.
