LOCATE AC CABIN AIR FILTER

No cabin filter on 2003 crown vic cabin filter is under pass cowl trim

On the taurus open the hood and pull the metal clips off the passenger side cowl on the edge facing the engine and lift the cowl off and away. be careful of the washer fluid hose going into the hood there because they become brittle and break easily. next youll see a water diverter. its flat black and is angled down on the left side. if theres 2 screws remove them. if not then pull the plastic to the right until the left side isnt angled anymore and then pull it out. be careful not to rip this piece at the spot where it is angled because water will leak into your dash and ruin your electronics. next use a flat head to pry the filter out if its original because the foam bonds to the housing over time and if it rips it will drop all that dirt into your vents. once its loose remove it and use a vacuum or something to clean any debris off the screen under the filter. then do what most people do and bang the filter on the wall a few times and reinstall it. just kidding put a new filter in in there and be careful installing the water diverter. get it lined up to the edge on the left and at the same time push down the left side with your left hand and push the right side leftwards with your right hand to make it go in smoother. reinstall the 2 screws if they were there, then put the cowling back on (careful of that hose!) and reattach any clips that you didn't go flying away when you were popping them off.

for the crown victoria just open the window for fresh air :)
