I was driving down the interstate and the car went dead like you turned off a switch. the coil has 12v. power to it on a two prong plug. is the other wire the ground wire and should it have continuity to ground? The coil has another two prong plug that goes to the distributor which I assume is the power for the distributor. I know the coil is good because I put a new one on it after the car died. I tested 3 coils and they all read the same. The old one, the new one and another one I got from the salvage yard. I pulled the distributor to check the pick-up coil and it is good.I have 3 different ignition modules and they all read different. If I don't have a ground at the coil isn't that my problem?
First thing to do is change the cap and the rotor in the distributor. They can cause the car to just die like tha tbecause the rotor can burn through or the carbon button in the cap can wear away. Both these can cause the spark to go directly to ground. The ignition module or pickup in the distributor could also be the cause.Very common failure items in older GM's.
