In the last 7 weeks: transmission rebuilt, plugs & boots changed, new mass air flow - shudders when accelerating or staying constant speed going up incline - both in cruise and out - have seen posts about torque converters, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump, ignition coils, throttle sensor, vaccum leaks, alternators/batteries going bad, coolant leaking and blowing back on plugs -- currently no new check engine light - should I take it back to tranny shop to have them double check there?

have your fuel system vacuumed out our excursion did it as well the injectors are not at fault it is the fuel lines
SOURCE: engine light won't go off.
have the EGR valve tested because this will cause the engine light to come on and also check all vacuum lines

It might but what exactly are the codes. Before you change the Mass air flow sensor, try cleaning it first with a can of mass flow cleaner.
If your running a oil K&N filter, there could be some oil residue on the sensor. Start with that and change the filter or clean it if it's a K&N.
The O2 sensor's could be bad also, you really need the code's to be sure what sensor is giving you the faulty signal.
Good luck and hope this helps.

try pulling off the air breather hose and look inside at the mass air flow sensor,it looks like a wire with a diode hooked to it incase you didnt know, see if there is any fuzz on it,sometimes the air filter will lose small pieces and the mass air flow sensor catches it.If that doesnt work then you may have a fuel problem, weak pressure, causing the mass air flow sensor to read too much air so it tricks the computer to adjust the issue.

sounds like its vapor locking, try a vented gas cap,or a clothes pin on your fuel line close to the carb.
