Problems with idle, getting noticable in runability.
Man I have a 97 Ford Taurus 3.0 and i'm having problems with the idle.....it's even noticable in the runability now. Replaced idle air control valve, sensor on the gas tank, spark plugs wire, coil pack, gas cap. Its my belief that its somewhere in the vacuum lines or air flow. Help!! Any suggestions. Its a great car besides this, and I could see riding this car till the wheels fall off if this issue was fixed.
Hi did you do a continuity check check if there's a wire shorted or open you'll need a volt meter check if the wires on the crank sensor going to the control module and also the one from the coil to the module there has to be a shorted or open wire check this and get back to me good luck
remove neg. cable from battery so the ECM will reset this may work. make sure the IAC is air tight. if this doen't fix your problem have someone check the IAC valve if it's bad the part runs $300.00 pluse

the vss is located at the output shaft of the trans. it produces a signal measured in mV. often, on taurus platform vehicles, it is necessary to remove the exhaust from the engine and lower it. then a simple mV reading can be taken as per the pinpoint test. some signals can be found making higher frequency noise so the system continues to function but in limited strategy. the resulting runability problems should indicate to the owner that it needs to be taken in for repairs. continuing to operate in limited strategy often leads to fouled spark plugs and an eventual no start. since all this is often preceeded by a "service engine soon" light, or other amber MIL lamp in the instrument cluster, the car is indicating you must get the codes read. the testers technicians use can also deliver live datastream info and picture during operation. they use this data to find the sensors or actuators which are out of range, out of spec or causing a hard fault. if you decide to replace it, give notice to the plugs as maintenance. clear the memory and complete a full drive cycle before retest for a clear future of operation
it could be your halfshaft CV (constant velocity) joint, outer. This is covered by your warranty for 3/36 so have it cehcked out. Try full turns in a parking lot in each direction with window down. See if it's worse and one direction is worse. Advise dealer of findings.
Other possibility is brake backing plate.
could be a good move to have the transmission oil changed
next move is to have the fault codes read to determine the sensors at fault
new transmission --no --from your description , you never mentioned any strange noises so it will not be necessary to go that path
It will be electronic problems not mechanical
take it to an accredited professional transmission shop , have the codes read and get a proper diagnosis done
I would get a hold of someone in Ford customer service because you should have a 3years or 36,000mile warrenty on this car and you should not be having all the problems you are having I am a Ford man and I have had 6 taurus myself and never had any of the problems you are having and mine have all been bought used with previous owners. this is something I would like for you do for me and let me know open the driverside door and look at the build date and if it is somewhere around a holiday this maybe your problem cause at that time everyone is thinking about celebrating and not thinking about the quality of their work.
