Truck running rough after i changed wires and spark plugs... made sure to keep the firing order but changed the wires one by one and didnt make sure they were the same lengths as the one i removed.. could this be the reason for it running rough. pls help and if it is how does the lengths of the wires go.
The length is not as important as the routing. Making sure to keep the firing order is correct as you stated. However: There are two other variables that can cause rough running. Crossfire: Make sure you are not crossing wires, meaning laying one over the others . This can cause induction firing. So when you mean exact, that means routing and firing order both. If it they were in a loom make sure you put them back in the loom. Also the type of wire: Most GM wires are carbon core with silicone jackets. If you got any other type that can cause a problem. Check fit , routing , order and type. Did you use spark plug grease to prevent arcing?
No, the longer length will not cause your problem. The longer wires are simply for the plugs longest from the distributor cap (or coil pack) to the spark plug, and no particular length is critical, just as long as all wires will fit.
Do you mean it ran fine before you changed the wires and plugs? If so, you may have one or two not fully seated at one end or the other. Go back and make sure each wire is pushed in correctly, You should hear or feel the new wire snap over the new spark plug.

The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.
The distributor rotates in a clockwise direction. The engine must be on the compression stroke on the #1 cylinder. Line up the timing marks. Remove the cap and the rotor should be pointing to approximately the 5 o'clock position.
Good Luck
