2002 cavalier driver's side power window - only works intermittently - it will go down; but then not go back up without numerous attempts; and then only in small increments. Switch for passenger side works ok. Yup, I had the same problem.. 2005 chevy. Bought the car used, 20K.. It finally stopped going up or down at all... Gets worse as the cold weather hits.. I brought it to the dealer.. they changed the motor, and it worked just fine.. made it just over a year before it did it again...I brought it back to the dealer, and got the ole, parts are only good up to a year for replacement.. $400 bucks again i paid.. Honestly, i think there's a short in the up/down switch. if yours has the auto down like mine.. Dont use it.. It seemed to speed up the killing process..

I have a 2003 Cavalier with the same problem. I can purchase a new motor at a local parts store but was wondering if anyone had tips for installing it. Chevy wants $400-$500 to fix this, so it would be nice if I could do it myself.

I can only open 2 out of 4windows on my car. It was very strange. The problem started out withthe driver side window then worked it's way around to the other side. I can open driver side; right rear stays open; and other 2 don't work at all...correction left rear works when it wants to!!!! I could follow what Kiyo 0141 was describing, but he did not give any instructions on how to clean the contacts or remove the plastic connectors, if that is possible??? Thanks!

Ok i had a simalar problem but hehe it wasnt the windo motor it wasnt that the switch was bad ok if its a 02-04 I think but might not be the same if the switch is in the center ok there are two lil metal connectors underneath the actual plastic switches and if the connecters are dirty it some times wont work and also the buttons have a little plastic peace that if breaks wont allow the connecters to touch see the diagram i have provided may not be the best but explains how for the most part

Thanks for using FixYa! It is possible that this problem is caused by a bad switch, but the most likely cause is either parts that are defective or it just wore out sooner than normal.

My 2003 2 dr. cavalier driver side window was working intermittently passenger side is ok now my driver side window would not work at all what cold be the problem

Make sure all your Fuses are good... The window motors could be going bad. But I'd check the fuses if they just stopped working without any signs of beings slow or being worn out.

1999 z24 chevy cavalier power windows. drivers side window will not go back up, this had happened a few times. i checked that the battery cables are tight, and checked the fuse for the power windows....

You are experiencing the beginning stages of a failing window motor. If you've checked all the wiring, and it goes down with ease, but you need to "help" the window back UP, then you will need to replace the motor that drives the window to go up and down. Easily doable if you are even just slightly mechanically inclined.

Same thing - power window problem

it's a switch problem. motormite/dorman makes these. try that and see how it works.

Hi, My 2002 Chevy Cavaliers windows have started having trouble rolling up. It seems they roll down fine, it's just when you try to roll them up either the 'button' doesn't work at all or it works...

Try spraying silicone spray down the sides (felt) where window slides (guides) up & down. Put window all the way down, spray them well, top to bottom, then run window up & down a few times. May not cure it, but should help. Be generous with it, but a little clean up later may be needed.
